It does say Ensworth can appeal the ruling, and I think this will be (or at least SHOULD be) over turned.

Crew was from Memphis.

Per our local Nashville newspaper, the associate head coach was also was ejected. He didn't know he was ejected until he read it in the paper on Sunday. Crazy.

I hope for those coach's sake, these rulings get over turned. How do you even eject someone from a game after it's over?

And from listening, the ref was awfully quick to tell the Coach he was done for next week. Obvious agenda against Ensworth. Really a shame!

The Tennessean is reporting that the TSSAA is upholding the suspension to both Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach. Per that story, both ejections were for "cursing the officials." Also the TSSAA stated that the Head Coach made contact with official twice. The report said the official also used profane language and will not work any remaining postseason games.

The new's video clearly shows the ref did not throw the coach out for cursing the official. Refs yells at coach for bumping him, and the coach's words from the video, 'Wow, I did not bump you." The ref throws him out as he's saying that. The video also shows the teams in the background going through the post game handshake, which clearly means the refs stayed on the field well after the clock stuck 0:00, which based on a previous post is against TSSAA policy. IMO, it looks completely like an official on a power trip, especially when he made the comment that the coach is done for next week.

It would be interesting to see the 10-15 seconds prior to the video clip they showed. Did the Ensworth coach approach the official, what was said, etc.? Without that, based on the video shown, the ejection looks to be absolutely ridiculous. I hope they can appeal that and allow him to continue with his team.

 

Not sure about Tennessee.

 

KHSAA does not have an appeals process. Basically in Kentucky the only way you get anything over turned is if you know somebody;)

I hhave some serious problems with the ref who tossed the coach. I just got done watching the video and there are 2 glaring things that stgand out to me.

 

1. This was after the game, what was the ref doing out there in the first place?

2. The coach didn't seem agitated or arguing or anything, he was just talking and the official went nuts. The official was clearly in the wrong in this case. If the official had a problem with the coach for what went on when the player was ran out of bounds, then the official should of done something then, not after the game was over.

 

Very poor officiating. I feel bad for the coach, although he did seem to hanlde it well. Kudos to the coach and boo to the official.

Let's not judge based on this small snippet. From the film, I don't see a bumping and I don't hear profanity from either. Obviously, there is more than this on the game report. So in the absence of reviewing ALL of the evidence given to the Tennessee board, and with the fact that the associate head coach may or may not be on this film, then let the board decide what they feel is best. I am not saying I condone or reprimand the behavior I saw-just that the ruling contained more than this film.

I wonder what position the official that pulled the trigger had during the game? I've seen line judges and head linesmen that seem to go out of their way to be antagonistic towards coaches, one in JeffCo. that I've often wondered why he would continue to officiate with the chip he carries on his shoulder.

 

I'm leaning towards the officials being out of line simply because they ignored policy and were on the field after the game. If they ignore that what else did they let slide.

A shame for the coaching staff if it holds up and the most serious "activity" was what we saw on video. Beyond the PF by the player it all appeared rather harmless. The flip side of this is what if any governing body can evaluate the ref in this scenario. Especially if he had it out for the staff involved.

 

He should be reprimanded and suspended from future playoff games if he can't call it objectively. Sounds good but I don't see it happening. The good 'ol boy ref network do a good job of protecting their own. Good luck Butch Jones with a real winner! :meh:
