Boys Regional Tournament Sites

So Montgomery is already admitting they may be a difference. GS explain to me why you want to switch and screw up the best tournament in Ky next to the state tourney!!!!

I don't live in the 10th region but imo if Montgomery County businesses are going to make up the difference in money, then the answer to your question would be for fairness to the other geographic areas of the region. The road runs two ways. Why should fans in certain far reaching sections of the region have to do all the long distance driving every year? It's a pretty good haul for Clark County fans to drive to Maysville. I'm sure if Montgomery County got the tournament only once in a while that the fans in that section of the region would be pleased. It's nice to have things in your back door occasionally.

In my region, the 14th, there's little doubt that Knott County Central has the best facility and can generate the most money (seats 5000), but I don't think the other schools would be very happy with the tournament being held there every year. Our region rotates the region amongst 6 schools: Knott Central (5000), Perry Central (4500), Powell County (3500), Letcher Central (I'm told it will seat 3500), Breathitt County (aprox 3200), and Hazard (around 2400).

The only school most of the people I have talked to have an issue with in the rotation is Hazard, because of their not being able to seat at least 3000 and also a serious lack of parking. In addition, that area of the region is accommadated in the rotation when Perry Central, about 3 or 4 miles from Hazard, host the tournament. It doesn't seem fair, imo, to allow the city of Hazard to host the region twice in the rotation.

The way it is now works okay, though. Each of the 4 districts are represented in the rotation:

53rd: Knott County Central; Letcher County Central.

54th: Perry County Central; Hazard.

55th: Breathitt County.

56th: Powell County.

I wonder if Estill Co. will ever host the 14th???

I say give Montgomery a shot once and see how it goes,Personally i believe it will be right back at the Fieldhouse cause it holds 6200-6500 people and is full on Friday and Saturday nights with most years having to lock out several hundered fans.If memory is correct the new Gym in Mt.Sterling wont even hold 5000 right and thats why i say it will be back after they get a shot to stay in Maysville. Is it true there going to redo the stage area of the fieldhouse and add some more seats.Maybe someone can do the geography part for all the schools to see what benefits most in general also.

Just like at Clark County years back when it didn't work, this will happen in Mt. Sterling. Some just can't figure it out when they look at the whole picture.

That was a nightmare. :scared:

That is my point...give them a shot...if it dosn't work out...than go back to plan A.... :D

Don't remember this one...what year?

When do we start changing things just to be changing. If is not broke don't fix it. Playing at the Fieldhouse last friday night was really a home court advantage as Clark put a whipping on Mason. You don't change your wife when everything is going well. Only when there is a problem. Also remember Montgomery will hold 4300 etc and there will be a bunch of passes which will cut down on your paying customers. How are you going to explain to Cov. Scott/Brossart/Pendleton fans who drive there and then cannot get in. They will never come back. That does not happen at Mason.

According to mhighfield it has happened.

It sounds like to me you don't think there is any home court advantage for Mason Co. right now. I totally disagree. It would be a homecourt advantage for whoever hosts the tournament. Think about it....

Theres times they have had to lock the door and turn a few away like last year. But you already have 6500+ in the gym which will be 1500-2000 more than the new gym will hold.So there will be hugh differnce in turn aways at that rate.As far as an advantage for Mason its really only an advantage that they dont have to drive to place of destination to play there right in there home town no long bus rides.Cause the best team wins most of the time not the home team just look at past records .Years Mason has won they were the best team could have played it outside on the playground wouldnt have mattered.

Sure I realize there is a home court advantage but to what degree. The years Mason has won they wer the best. What advantage was it last year when Mason lost in the first round? Mason went about ten years in the eighties when we did not even reach the finals. Where was the home court advantage then???????

It's my understanding that they don't want to host it. Their gym used to seat close to 3000 but they have taken out about 500 seats to add coaches offices, weight rooms, etc. They wouldn't be big enough now. I'd say they'll be happy that at least Powell County, only 20 minutes away, represents the district in the rotation.

Isn't that every year?

In my view it's the best place to hold the 10th region tournament, wouldn't you agree highfield? There is just a lot of tradition there and it would seem ludacris to have it anywhere else.

Maybe not....Montgomery Co is building a new gym now...should be ready next fall. We may see the boys regional there in 2 years.... :sssh:

It is my understanding even with the new gym being built it still won't have the seating capacity that the fieldhouse has and to me the tournament should stay where it is, now and in the future.

when was this? It had to be over 35 years ago.

I would agree with that too if I lived within 40 or 50 miles of Maysville (I'm assuming you are from Robertson County). The Field House would be a pretty convenient location. However, I might have a different view if I were a Clark County fan.
