Here's where you're wrong. I DO see districts as post season play in other sports. But I also see in-season district football games as the start of the post season elimination for football. The first kickoff of the first district football game starts the elimination process. Prior to that, all teams are eligible to win state. They are eliminated based on their performance. Just because the elimination process starts with an in season games doesn't mean the intentions of both aren't exactly the same. You can say regular season vs post season, but I bet you a million dollars coaches feel that the first district game is the start of post season for their football team. I sure would! And just think if it was even tougher to get in. We blow it off as regular season because so many teams get in. If there weren't so many, I bet you'd all agree that the regular season district games were the start of post season.

 

Hellbird, what if Grant co would have beat cooper this year? Would you say " well they didn't take care of business" All I'm saying is only winning one out of 4 district games isn't taking care of business either.

 

If its tiebreakers we want to discuss, then lets talk about that. But I would guess 3way ties are in the minority.

If Grant Co. beat Cooper this year I'd say they deserved in the playoffs and Cooper didn't.

So tell me how cooper EARNED their way in this year. Because they beat the one district team that everyone else did? Won no other district games and only won 3 games overall! You want to use last years team as an exception all the time, lets talk about this years team. Did they earn a spot.

That's funny because all my private messages would tell me different. Don't mistake people not replying to agreeing with you. If you want to say that, I could say that outside of you, Hellbird and Vor, no one agrees with you. I talk to people all the time that are very close to programs and they say the same thing I do. They just don't care enough to debate it with you. In fact, I have several people tell me "those guys just don't get it do they"

Do some homework and tell me over the last ten years how many 3-4 seeds made it to the finals.

I don't need to do any homework. Last year a 3 seed made it to the finals, thats enough for me to know that 3 seeds deserve to be in the tournament. Why would you or anyone else want a tournamennt that kept some of the best teams int he state out? That makes no sense to me.

You can't use blowouts as the reason because #1 and #2 seeds get blown out also. As well as blowouts happen every level of the playoffs including title games also each year.

Like I said earlier, if a 3 or 4 seed never won inthe post season then I would be leading the fight to keep them out of the playoffs every year, but the fact is 3 and 4 seed teams win EVERY year is reason enough to keep them in.

Yep, that is exactly how they earned their way in this year in the current system.

At least they had to earn their way in which is more than I can say about any 6A or 1A district in the state.

First, I don't see why everyone wants to compare football with basketball or any other sport. Basketball and baseball games can be dominated by one athlete, football can't. Football is a team sport that requires several people to be successful each game. A player in basketball can score 70 and carry a team. A pitcher can toss a no hitter. Next, football takes more preparation in schematics. Usually a coach changes plays or defensive calls each down. Basketball doesn't do this consistently.

 

Second, I wish that we would eliminate the bye week and reduce the teams to the top 2. If you take the top 3 and have a bye, I think the bye is a hinderance to the team. I would not want to stop team momentum in high school.

 

Third, if you only take the top 2 teams and cut the bye week, you could start a week later, (heat issues) and finish on thanksgiving weekend. More relatives could make the games. Another bonus is that they athletes would not have to miss school.

The biggest flaw in your scenerio is you are not garunteeing the best teams get in by only taking the top 2. The tie breaker system is too flawed to just take #1 and #2 seeded teams.

High school football playoffs go on way to long. Need to eliminate the 1st round and only have the 1st and 2nd place teams from each district qualify. Teams with losing records especially those that win 1 or 2 games and in some cases no wins at all do not deserve to make the playoffs.

5 rounds doesn't seem to long...can't penalize Football because their games are only played once a week. The other sports have 2 rounds in dist, 3 rounds in regionals and 4 rounds in the sweet 16...taking 9 rounds of playoffs. Football takes 5 weeks and basketball for example takes around 4 weeks from first round of the district to finals...not much difference in length.
