Dixie Heights vs Newport Central Catholic December 3rd. Predictions

What happened to Daria? Thought he started last year.

Daria is still playing...I just think Rabe starts. He has put in A LOT of work over the summer working with Brad Redford and Steve McFarland to improve his game both on and off the court in the weight room. Has put on 10 lbs since last year.

I hope Daria is somewhere in Dixie's lineup. Kid gives them a legit scorer who can knock down 3's.

This should be a great game with Dixie's young talent as well as Hatton more than likely getting his points. Better supporting cast for him than in past years IMO.

NCC has been fine tuning their well oiled machine since the summer with the "Basketball Only" guys. I think its a tight game but NCC wins.

NCC 64

Dixie 58

Starting lineup for Dixie from what I'm hearing (subject to change as there is still a good amount of time between now and then):

JR - Liam Rabe 6'0

SR - Adam Daria 5'10

SR - Brandon Hatton 6'3

JR - Matt Isbel 6'4-6'5 (he had a growth spurt and I believe is taller than Hedger now... maybe the most improved player on the team?)

JR - Mitch Bolin 6'8

Dixie has plenty of size to play with anyone this year... and all of these guys will play a lot... lots of quality depth

JR - Hedger 6'4

JR - Moore 6'3

JR - Niehaus 6'3 (he could potentially start)

JR - Schreck 6'2

Height is one thing, but physical play on the inside is another. Has Bolin filled out? Is Isbel a physical player. I know Hedger will mix it up under the glass, will these other kids hold their own against the physical play of McDonald and Schulte?

Exactly, there is "height" and there is "size". Schulte is a D1 kid, McDonald is likely one as well. NewCath's starting 5 is the best in the region and it isn't close. Dixie has a D1 kid who is a big-time scorer and a lot of "they should be improved" guys around him.

Hedger and Niehaus are bigger body kids. And unless Shulte has filled out considerably, he and Bolin are the same. Bolin has bulked up for sure... he and Shulte are a wash physically imo.

Drew McDonald imo is, or will be the best player in NKY this year. I said this in an earlier thread. I'm a big fan of Drew's game.

Dixie has a lot of athletic bigs and will be competitive in every game on the boards.

If Bolin and Schulte are a wash physically then Bolin has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY stronger since last year. Schulte may not carry a lot of weight, but he plays very strong.

I believe Drew will be the Player of the Year this year in the 9th region with Bolden/Hatton finishing a close 2nd/3rd. Just my opinion, however, I look for Drew to have a big first game against Dixie and a huge year. He can dominate down low against the bigs and/or step outside and knock down the threes. He is going to be a matchup nightmare for teams. Another thing Drew does well is pass the ball, he can find and hit the open man which will be a big help for Schulte and the rest of the Breds.

I suspect this will be a very physical battle. I do expect NCC to come out on top but Hatton should put on a heck of a show. NCC's second half in last years contest was nothing short of amazing. Look for a lot of fouls, lots of foul trouble and a high scoring affair. Good luck to both teams and as always stay healthy, we have a long way to go. Whomever wins this one should have week 1's top ranking. Not that it matters this early.

One of last years highlights from the NewCath/Dixie game.

I predict LB13 will be at the game, return to a house full of girls and get on line and log in to BluegrassPreps to post a review and check out other scores. This I guarantee!
