Thanks. I was there that weekend with a buddy from Central Ky. Took a lot of ribbing.

No one from NKY is beating Mayfield or Caldwell County but HHS is an absolute lock to win in 4A and I think Simon Kenton has at least a punchers chance at winning 6A.

Excellent post....a few thoughts to add,

 

Beechwood, in years they are winning state titles are beating the NCC & Covcath caliber teams and they haven't been doing that and haven't been winning state titles, close but not this year.

 

NCC has a chance, the type of team & program that can string late season win streaks that take them to title games....could happen again as they are streaking

 

Scott great season but not balanced.....Conner, better chance but up & down week to week spells little chance of putting five wins together

 

HHS is a prohibitive favorite BUT, don't discount JC....their style of play has challenged Highlands in the past & I'm hearing their talent level on both sides is strong. If HHS is healthy and doesn't "giveaway" too many opportunities they will proceed to #7

 

SK is the only possible candidate here, don't see Dixie making a run. SK, as someone referenced "has a punchers chance" being in uncharted waters and hitting the big stage will likely leave them short as well.

 

That being said, hope I'm wrong and NKY brings home a few!

 

My take:

 

1A: Will be tough for Beechwood to win as Mayfield stands in the way, but definetly do able. Obviously if they can get past Mayfield, no way they don't win the title.

 

2A: I think Newcath gets to the state championship and runs in to a tough Caldwell Co team that wants revenge from last year. Newcath is capable of winning but will be an underdog.

 

4A: Highlands rolls with no games within 2 touchdowns. Quote me on that if you'd like.

 

5A: As much as I'd like to see a similar run that Cooper made last year, I just don't see either Scott or Conner being able to repeat that performance. My guess is the furthest either makes it is the region finals where they lose to either South Oldham or Anderson Co. I like Conner's chances a little better than Scott's, simply because they are more balanced.

 

6A: Either Dixie or Simon Kenton will have a favorable draw as their toughest game likely wouldn't come until the semi finals against McCracken County which will be a tough game but definetly winnable. Still, I don't see either beating Scott Co, Trinity, or St X in the finals. I think SK would have the best chance simply because they are more balanced with Kuntz. I do like Dixie's run game better, however, and ability to control the clock with Washington, Moore, Caple, and Owens.

 

In short, Highlands is the only team that I see winning a state title but I don't think it's out of the question that we see 3 teams in the state title game. (Highlands, Newcath, and SK/Dixie)

Eagle, you fell for the oldest trick in the book. After last 2weeks now the state has doubt and getting overconfident about playing Birds. Let me just say that anyone who thinks highlands is weak will be let down now that the games count it's time to step on the gas and take cruise control off. I believe like others have previously said that there is always a "method to Dale's madness," if you will. They will make necessary adjustments to win.

 

Haven't fallen for any trick old or new. Highlands has had some close calls this year included the 2pt win this past Friday in which they gave up over 900 yards. These are things that we haven't seen from Highlands in recent memory which leads me to believe this may be the most vulnerable Bluebird team during their current run. Does it mean I think they will lose? No! I do think they will win but I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't. Complacency has seem to set in with some of the Bluebird faithful. Hope it hasn't set in with the team. I will say this is one year that its good that Highlands is playing in 4A.

 

Don't give me the "method to Dale's madness" line. You would have to be delusional if you think he purposely gave up 69 pts and over 900 yards on his team. UK#1fan doesn't have anything on some of you Highlands fans.

Close calls - 7 point victory over 5A #2 John Hardin, 3 pt Loss to D1 Ohio Top 10 Elder, 2 pt win over 5A Warren Cental

 

I see where you're coming from on the close calls. I can't really speak to the JH game as I didn't see it, but heard it wasn't really as close as the score indicates.

 

WC game was close. 5-6 defensive starters out. Forget what we said about depth at Highlands, any team that starts half their JV against another teams 1's is going to struggle.

 

You keep thinking they're vulnerable. I really hope JC, CCH, LC, BC and Collins all believe that and bring their A-games. It will make the smack down even sweeter.

If you call HHS being the number 2 lock vulnerable, then that's your opinion. We have just had such a great run and no real reason to worry in 4A for so long that it's confidence because we have proven it and will again. We are nothing like UKfan. What we say actually comes true. When we aren't favorites or at the top of our game, we will tell you. Not one HHS fan predicted the Elder game was a lock for HHS. I think we've even mentioned that JH, WC and the Florida team had us a little worried. We felt that we could come out on top, but we didn't say anything about rolling over them. We are much different than UKfan. We have history, tradition and experience to back up our predictions. If any of us were worried about any of the other 4A teams, we would tell you. But we have watched this HHS team grow and get challenged all year and they will not lose any a 4A opponent. I'm sorry it's that way, but it won't happen this year. If any of us had any doubts, you would see it on here. But anything can happen. It's why they play the game.

 

Everyone wants to talk about HHS giving up all those points and yards on defense, but no one wants to discuss the fact that HHS scored 71 points with their backup QB, which also means without one of their best receivers (because he became the QB).
