The schools seem fine with it so why is anyone else worried about it?

 

I am not worried about it. I also don't necessarily think it will hurt attendance. I think it could help attendance since there is only one other game and fans of other schools may attend. I am just curious as to the reason it isn't being played on Friday night. If the administration at NCC considers All Saints Day a holiday with no school activity allowed, that is fine and I am ok with Beechwood playing the game Saturday afternoon. It just seemed odd that the other Catholic schools are playing on Friday and made me think there was another reason for the scheduling.

I was the one who brought it up originally because I wanted to know. It is annoying and I guarantee you that it WILL affect attendance. Cov Cath and Conner play that afternoon and of course you have to also contend with soccer and other things going on on a Saturday afternoon. It is what it is and that's not going to change, so play on.

I would love to see that game but 3.5 hours one way is too much.

If it wasn't, according to google maps 268 miles & 4 hours 1 min drive, I would definitely consider it. If it was 2 hour drive I'd be there for sure, no way in hell I'm driving 4 hours.

How about this: the Diosese asked originally that none of the catholic schools play on All Saints Day. NCC spoke to BW and they simply agreed to a noon game because of the fundraiser. The Diocese then made it a none issue after NCC and BW agreed and it never came up again. If you want change write your local congressman, priest, bishop, athletic director, or principal. Or nominate BW administration for a Nobel peace prize but I don't think they think it's a big deal. This in response to justsomeguy.... I didn't tag it.

Thanks for the explanation. It looks like Beechwood is a more faithful school than a couple of the other Catholic schools in the area, doesn't it? :sssh:

I get it. Extortion was a strong word, but it's what Mexitucky described. "Either move it or we won't play. Unfortunately, there's no light version of "Extortion." I think the school is foolish for moving it. Especially when it's clear other Catholic schools in the diocese don't even follow the rule/suggestion. It's another self-imposed thing.

 

Mostly I'm pissed because with all my work travels this is generally the one game I can make. I will miss it for the first time in a long time and I was looking forward to it. I know for fact that attendance will be affected. Almost everyone I know that doesn't have kids on the team will not be going and would have been there for a night game. Heck, a few that I asked, I was the one breaking the news to them about the noon game. A couple of folks were planning to have a great day of H.S. football with some bar time in-between. Conner/CCH will be the draw Saturday afternoon and Beechwood will have 25% less fans. Again, like so many said: It's not going to change and it is what it is. I'll get over it.

Maybe the Bishop issued a "directive" to not play on Holy Days. We all know that from The Commish that means you can certainly play on a Holy Day but you take full responsibility for anything that happens ......

 

BTW out of touch decision by the Bishop to not allow school to be held on Holy Days. Previously kids went to school and could attended Mass during the school day at school. Now they are off of school and guessing maybe 20% attend Mass.
