fan4nascar Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 One thing is for sure, NewCath will be tough, physical and well coached. I think it is going to be a heck of a game, probably decided by a TD or less.
Geek61 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Why is this game being played on Saturday afternoon?
Lawnboy13 Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Why is this game being played on Saturday afternoon? From what I've been told......Since Friday is All Saints Day (Catholic Holy Day) NewCath can't play. Thursday night is out because of Halloween and with all the kids "tricker treating" Beechwood declined (totally understandable). And to top it all off, NewCath has there biggest fund raiser of the year at the Marquis in Wilder Saturday night, so it has to be Saturday at Noon. Edited October 28, 2013 by Lawnboy13
Geek61 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 So why is a public school being held to a Holy Day?
mexitucky Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 So why is a public school being held to a Holy Day? B/c their opponents are. Obviously it was discussed during scheduling. Otherwise, NewCath could have used their bye week to cover it and Beechwood would have scheduled someone else. Both sides appear cool w/ it.
Beechwoodfan Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 It was a much better rivalry when both schools were class A..always a lot at stake. I remember bringing Tums in my pocket because I would get so worked up. It still is a good game between two great teams. Rumor has it Beechwood may be AA the next time they reclassify, so this may get back to the nail biters it used to be.

Only part is true Both Holy Cross and Brossart play on Friday. Newport plays at home on Friday moving NCC to Saturday
Voice of Reason Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 A tougher one to predict than usual in this rivalry. There are a lot of new matchups and personnel this year versus last year. New QB's for both teams. I really don't know what we will see in this one. The last three games for each team are very similar - blowout, shtuout wins in their last two and prior to that a lopsided, but more contested win versus good district opponents. There are two common opponents: Dixie - Both teams lost; New Cath 36-7 and Beechwood 41-20. Holy Cross - Not sure if this tells us anything but wins for both; NCC 48-0 and BW 34-7. Both teams are battle tested against very difficult pre-district schedules versus good big school opponents but both teams had losing records against the big schools with NCC going 1-4 and Beechwood going 2-3. NCC lost to Cooper and struggled versus a Lloyd team that I think they should have won more easily. NCC does have the win over a solid Ashland (6-3) team in game one, which is a good win. Beechwood had top 5 5A Franklin County (9-1) beat till a bad 4th quarter let FC get the win. BW's best wins are over Ohio big school Lima Sr. (5-4) and 4A Holmes (5-4). I see more similarities. Both teams are strong at the skill positions and have new QB's having good seasons. Both teams lost big time performers from last year. I believe both teams have been working all season on getting better in the trenches. I see this game coming down to who can run the ball better between the tackles and which team's skill players make more big plays. Of course, turnovers are always a factor in these close hard fought games. As I look at each team's schedule and results, I lean slightly towards Beechwood but it is really too close to call. One thing is certain as you can see in Lawnboy's summary at the top of the thread, it will be a close hard fought game between two of the top football programs in Kentucky.
Voice of Reason Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Only part is true Both Holy Cross and Brossart play on Friday. Newport plays at home on Friday moving NCC to Saturday Interesting. So why not play on Friday night? Is it possible both team's coaches wanted to go watch 1A #1 Mayfield vs. 2A #1 Caldwell Co. on Friday night and that is why it is being played on Saturday afternoon?
C-BOY78 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Interesting. So why not play on Friday night? Is it possible both team's coaches wanted to go watch 1A #1 Mayfield vs. 2A #1 Caldwell Co. on Friday night and that is why it is being played on Saturday afternoon? Newport play Holmes at Newport per schedule I saw. As per lawnboy NCC has a fund raiser on Saturday night
Voice of Reason Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Newport play Holmes at Newport per schedule I saw. As per lawnboy NCC has a fund raiser on Saturday night And Beechwood's field should be wide open on Friday night. Plus, the All Saints Day factor isn't a problem for the other Catholic Schools. So why play on Saturday afternoon?
Lawnboy13 Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Only part is true Both Holy Cross and Brossart play on Friday. Newport plays at home on Friday moving NCC to Saturday The game is a Beechwood home game, so where Newport is playing is irrelevant. As far as ND & Brossart playing on Friday, all I can say...........NewCath held to a higher standard. :lol2:
