Is the Max Smith Experiment Over at Kentucky?

Featured Replies

Have we seen the last of Max Smith as a starting QB at Kentucky? Most players get better with experience, Smith seems to be going the other direction? Agree/disagree?

I would like to say yes but it all depends on Whitlow's health. If he's healthy then Max shouldn't see the field again.

So what has happened to Smith? He was at least a little above average last season before he was injured. He can't hit any receivers or anything at this point. Lack of confidence? Still not right from the injury?

Max just doesn't seem to be a fit for this offense. That combined with some terrible play calling results in Smith just not looking good.

I think a lot of it is on the coaching staff for not naming a number 1 from the start and sticking with him. You can't make QB's split first team reps in practice and in games then expect them to get better.

He's done.

Max Smith is injured. He needs rotator cuff surgery. He has to get shot up to throw the football and it is not working very well. His mechanics are affected and thus, his accuracy and arm strength suffer.

I guess they don't tell everyone this, for the very reason many things are kept secret in a football program. The kid is wounded and probably should not be playing, but he is and his performance is way off.

Smith problem is he is injured. I think this says more about P. Towles and the lack of belief that coaches have in him to lead this offense.

I've heard the same thing about the injury not being healed. Not sure if that says that UK isn't happy with Pat or they are not sold on Drew. Either way, UK football is so far down that it can only go one direction.

My assessment, too. I thought he was a serviceable QB last season until he got hurt. This year----not so much. I think Neil Brown admitted in the paper this morning that he has lost much arm strength.

I have a feeling they will go with Whitlow then next season it will be Barker's job. He is coming in January so he will be ahead of the learning curve for true freshmen.

I hope, his game is just hard to watch sometimes. My question is how can Towels be that bad?

Can Sindelar from Caldwell County challenge Barker? I hear UK is after him pretty hard.

I believe his shoulder is still injured.

I have talked with someone inside the program and they say the better QB on the team is Reese Phillips.
