Litkenhous ratings for 6A 10/7/13

Featured Replies

The Mustangs are much better than they were the first two games of the year. The first two games were in part about MCHS finding their way. Mayfield isn't just any 1A team. They can whip a majority of public school teams regardless of class. Mayfield won on a missed Mustang field goal. Tilghman won on a blown pass coverage play, scores called back on penalties, an amazing shuffle pass and two missed extra points. I give both PT and Mayfield credit but MCHS is two points from being undefeated. They creamed a 3A and a 5A program that were ranked in the top ten. They held Bullitt Central's fine RB in check as part of a shut out. Dyer Co. had some quality wins when they got blown away by the Mustangs. There's a bit more to McCracken than the brief description in your post.

IMHO sounds like a bunch of excuses, and smoke blowing.

McCracken is very solid, Mayfield had some depth issues with MC because of the heat that night. I also thought a couple of less turnovers and Mayfield could have won handily. I saw MC play Graves this past friday and they looked more solid. I believe they are a top 5 team in 6A. I would not want to play them again, they look more polished. I think that a team comming down from Louisville to WKY in the playoffs will get a great battle.

No excuses. I prefer to call it an objective fact based response to a smarmy post. In my "humble" opinion.

I would say a schools first two games in it's history are as good a reason, excuse or whatever you want to call it for starting slow. Litkenhouse gets more accurate as the season progresses though so will be interesting to see how the rating adjusts. With the first district having home field throughout the Henderson-McCracken game will have a lot on the line. My guess is McCracken is underrated in the AP at this point. We'll see.

Just looked at their record. 3 schools they beat are HORRIBLE...the other, Crittenden Co, is a small 2A school that is struggling and is down in talent...and only beat them by 1, 13-12. I mean really, it's an embarrassing schedule for a 6A school.

Take a look at Scott County's schedule. How are they #2 in a computer ranking?

I would like for the C-J to explain how the rankings are determined in the Lit rankings. I understand that it is all in state schools vs. in state schools. Then how has Trinity been at the top since week 1????? DO NOT MISSUNDERSTAND ME, Trinity deserves the ranking in my opinion. How can any publication state the criteria and also say " out of state games do not count" and rank a team that has not played in KY. In my opinion, the LIT ratings are worthless and are only a ploy to sell newspapers....... However, I would still love to hear how the CJ LIt ratings rank T with no data points to go on..... To me that screams a farce!!!

T hasn't been at the top since week 1. The first ranking didn't come out until the 2nd or 3rd week of the season and BG was #1.

They've only been playing 6A football for a few years. They consolidated high schools a few years ago, this years 4 winsis probably more then they've won since the consolidation.

Yes they have been playing 6A for only a short time, but they sure don't play a schedule befitting of a 6A school. They have been playing long enough to have some sort of program going. And Muhlenberg North and South both had football programs before they merged into one big school. Neither was very good, granted, but it's not like they suddenly discovered football 3 or 4 years ago and are playing powerhouses every game, because they aren't. As a matter of fact it looks like they try to schedule way down as much as possible.

I don't know what's up with football in that central wky area. Muhlenberg and Hopkins Central are both just bad year in and year out. I have some ideas of why, but do you know woodsrider?

Who did T play the first three weeks? What was their ranking in the first Lit rating? Case Closed.

Well stated! I'll concede that #3 in Lit rankings is high but the Mustangs should be top 10 in AP. The McCracken-Henderson game has great potential as a classic!

What case closed? You stated T has been at the top since week 1 and that was incorrect. I simply point that out. No case to be closed. What you stated was factually incorrect, what I stated was FACT.

In regards to the 2 schools you referenced, my best guess is talent or lack there of. Most of the athletes in Hopkins Co go to Madisonville. Muhlenberg Co just doesn't have much in the way of talent or at least they do a really bad job of getting it on the field. Demographics plays against Muhlenberg as well. The population is less then 5% black and with a total population of around 30,000 you do the math. The same reason Webster County is and has pretty always been putrid.

I hope you're right, however the way it looks like McCracken has improved I like my Colonels chances less and less.

Don't disagree with the above at all. However, I will say Anderson Co has done a pretty good job the past few years with essentially the same demographics. Coaching?
