If you want to run for Congress, you first have to sell your soul to the devil to win your primary and the endorsement of the people with the money. Politics is messy and sordid. I would also point out that term limits would boost the clout of paid congressional staffers and deep-pocket PACs.

 

Disagree. Since you won't be able to seek re-election, the special interest groups and "the devils" will have no vested interest in a candidate at all, since they can't "control" them for an extended period of time. It would clean up politics tremendously IMO.

Yeah shutting down the historical monuments (which have never been staffed before now), and refusing to pay death benefits is really taking the high road.....I know you'll never say anything unflattering about your messiah, but President Obama is every bit as childish as the idiots in the House and the Senate. That's been quite evident from day 1....

It takes two to tango and both sides are stepping on our toes. Get rid of all of them. If you are currently in office, you are the problem.

This is where negotiation and compromise are supposed to happen. Both sides are throwing temper tantrums trying to get their way and won't negotiate. That's why I say get rid of them all.

Term limits are great, but limiting campaign fundraising and contributions is THE KEY. The less people that you "owe" favors to, the less you'll worry about "special interests" groups and start worrying about the interest of the whole group that you represent. You SHOULD NEVER make more money in office than you would have in the private sector, excluding any bumps in salary that your elected position provides.

Jimmy Stewart ain't giving speeches in Washington anymore. Every person in Congress is bought and paid for by someone. It's all about money, not whether one can serve for eight or 30 years.

Why can't some people refuse to accept the fact that every member of Congress, whether Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Tea Party, etc. is to blame? The partisan crap is so pathetic. They're all to blame.

I like this. And I like it because it hurts. If you're shutting down, shut it all the way down. Close up shop on all government expenditures. Every last one. Make everyone feel it. Because not until every single person feels the pain of a shutdown will any single person cast a vote for meaningful change in both the legislative and executive branches.

Saying "they're all to blame" is a naive, knee-jerk reaction. If every House member and senator were thrown out of office today, why on earth would one possibly assume that their replacements would "do what's right for the country"?
