No problem. My comment was misrepresented by another poster, so it's understandable.

Aren't These unfortunate families now being paid the death benefit , after a short delay ? Sometimes both sides in Congress do get things correct .

 

I don't want to come off as a jerk. But you really are struggling to understand the concept of personal responsibilty. You are comparing situations that involve self sacrifice for the general public. These are bad attempts to discredit a valid opinion. You are comparing freak accident and natural disasters to individuals who volunteered to put their lives on the line.

 

 

I am merely trying to understand how personal responsibility applies to some and not others. The Bardstown police officer....that was most certainly not a freak accident. It was a calculated, targeted assassination. The FEMA example is an example of a situation that shows a person does not have to have been irresponsible to struggle and need help from the government.

 

AGAIN, I don't mind the benefit to military families. I also don't mind that our less fortunate receive benefits from the government. And the minority of abusers do not color my feeling that these programs are necessary. I don't understand how personal responsibility on your part is indicative of needing to stop the war on drugs.

 

My issue is that we are a civilized country, and we all chip in to make our society safe, combat social issues, provide services to aid those in need. It's not at all about personal responsibility, it's about civic responsibility. And I find it interesting that there are so many exceptions for some groups by those who shout "personal responsibility" the loudest.

First we should help our neighbors. But forced redistribution through government is inefficient and filled with corruption. You are trying to stretch isolated incidents into a reason for a welfare state and I'm sorry I will never agree. . The numbers will never agree.

 

Like I've said on this board a dozen times . I here democrats talking about republicans not agreeing with science. But democrats hate science to , they hate math because there economic policies don't add up.

I just want to clarify because it's been bugging me. To make the comparison RM was making from my statement it would assume people volunteering to defend our country made a bad decision. Which I don't see how any reasonable person could believe.
