You don't have to wait that long if you want a score comparison. Simon Kenton plays Campbell County Friday night, a team Highlands beat 50-8. A team that has defeated Simon Kenton in the regular season the last two years.

 

I forgot about that. IMO, SK is the best competition that Highlands will face this season (excluding the Trininty game) just b/c they can run and pass equally as well. Highlands defense is not the dominant defense of 2004 or even 2009, and Kuntz is a very, very good QB. How SK would do in the red zone would be the difference, b/c you can't trade FGs for TDs against Highlands. They love for the score to get into the 40s and 50s. From what I saw, SK, defensively doesn't have the team speed necessary to contain Highlands. They'd have to hope for the fumble bug to bite, which pops up from time to time w/ the Birds. However, for those fans that are selling THIS SK team short, I believe that you haven't seen them play yet.

So your saying SK is better than Elder? That is very interesting?

This is just a bunch of nonsense. HHS would beat SK all 10 times if they played them 10 times, and twice if they played a double header on Sunday. Coaching, Talent and Speed kill, and HHS has more of all of things than SK.

 

Which is why I said I'd most likely pick Highlands in a head-to-head game. I also said that if the question is COULD Simon Kenton beat Highlands, I would still say that, yes, they COULD beat them. I wouldn't give them a great chance at it, or saying that they COULD beat them because the worst team in the state COULD beat the best team in the state.

 

If they played 15-20 times, I'd think Simon Kenton could win 1 though.

 

What about something like a game in the driving rain or heavy snow where Highlands' speed would be neutralized some? Lee Corso talks about the rain being a great equalizer for underdogs.

 

There are all kinds of variables that you can put into it.

That SK team played its worst game ever. The SK team that played Ryle would beat any team in the state!

Your recent track record against a team from Georgetown would suggest you slow your role just a bit. A whopping 15 points in two combined games a year go, and a nice goose egg in 2011 from your beloved Pioneers... granted SK may have improved this year, which they probably have, but enough to beat ANY team in the state??? If so, the progression from one year to the next must be off the charts!!!!

 

Dont try taking down the best team in NKY for the last bajillion years or so, when you can't even compete with the third or fourth best team in your own class.

 

And IF you get your shot at the Rocks this year - a word to the wise: "When you come at the King, you best not miss."
