The answer to this question is very obvious. I posted this in another thread. No, SK couldn't beat Highlands. What makes it obvious? Simon Kenton's own head coach doesn't believe they can beat Highlands. If he did, Highlands would be on the schedule. Instead, Marksberry scheduled Holy Cross and Newport Central Catholic, another school that doesn't schedule Highlands because they know they couldn't compete with them. Nothing wrong with that. Beechwood stopped playing Highlands for the same reason. If you know you can't be competitive, why schedule the game? Marksberry obviously believes Simon Kenton cannot compete with Highlands. And who would know better than the head coach and athletic director? End of discussion.

 

Maybe Marksberry looks at it this way? No point in playing them Ryle beat them. So SK would crush them!

We may be able to compare scores if SK can make it's way to play Trinity in the playoffs. That's as good of an answer as anyone will get.

We'll need Raiderbird to start a 'Who would win an SK vs. CovCath game this year' thread. SK is a much better team than CovCath and would play HHS a better game than the Colonels did.

As one who has seen both teams and is unbiased:

 

SK COULD win a game or two in this series. They are good. Any time you have a really good QB with solid skill players you can compete. SK has that.

 

Their pass D is OK but not great and that's where HHS would win.

 

SK has nice skill players. They simply do not have the depth at the skill positions that HHS has. SK brings quality reserves (ie starters at a lot of schools) in waves. They bring 4 quality receivers off the bench on a regular basis. They have a backup RB in Hayes that would be the feature back at almost every school and he doesn't get many touches. SK's back is really good as well. ONE back. HHS has at least 2 stud backs.

 

Team speed , as is often case, would also be a huge difference maker for the Birds.

 

It would be a fun game to watch.
