Does same apply to Highlands basketball fans when they travel to NewCath or Holmes?

 

 

I am an HHS basketball fan, and unfortunately it sure does.

 

HHS can't define their basketball season in 2013/2014 by the results of games against 2 teams that have a chance to play deep into the state tournament at Rupp.

I would like to see Hoge get some snaps at QB this week with the balance of the first group of receivers.

 

Should be plenty of game left after Houliston is pulled for Hoge and Hergott to get a few series.

If we had a four-class system, I think Highlands and Harrison County would both still be in the same class. But I do understand your point and agree with it.

There's got to be a better way than what the KHSAA is doing now. I'm toying with this idea -- have four classes: big school elite, big school regular, small school elite, small school regular. I haven't worked out details yet, but you can see where I'm going. This way Highlands, for instance, would play St. X and Trinity and S-K instead of Harrison County, which would compete in big school regular.

HC lost by 30 last week to 1A school. This game exemplifies why we need to completely rethink the 6-classification system in football.

My "elite" and "regular" plan is about reducing the frequency of these gosh-awful mismatches -- like Harrison County and Highlands both being in the same 4A district. If we had an elite class and a regular class, these blowouts would be reduced, and fans would see more exciting, meaningful games.

They shouldnt be in a 4A district by numbers but they have to for geography sake. Financial considerations to schools are looked at first before competitiveness.

Incorrect. When they and CovCath were 5A prior to the most recent realignment, they were actually a 3A or 4A school allowed to play up to 5A because of the reason you cite. Now, they are a very small 4A school by numbers and playing in that class.

One of my arguments is that it's wrong for the KHSAA simply to chop up classes by enrollment. I think you also need to consider tradition, community support, program funding, facilities, number of kids who actually wear a uniform, and, as you point out, geography. For instance, although Highlands is 4A in enrollment, it's 6A-plus in all the categories I mentioned.

This is a little bit like what they do in IN (as I understand it). If you are successful for a long period of time, you are forced up to higher classes by that success. I think they use a point system based on # of playoff wins and championships. Once you earn enough points in your current classification, you get bumped up to the next classification. I assume if you are terrible in that next classification for a period of time, you can get "relegated" back to your original class, but I don't know that for sure.

I don't really see how you rank schools with arbitrary things like tradition, community support, etc. Number of kids doesnt matter in a lot of instances either. Heck if that determined what class I was in and I was a coach I'd cut my roster to be where I wanted to be. Thats not the spirit of high school athletics. At least what we have now is blunt and to the point. No sense and trying to make everything fair because life isnt fair. Get better, set your own team goals and work to achieve them. That's all we can do.

Not sure if this is the highest but in 1998 the score was 88-12 against Campbell Co. There are peopled still peeo'd about that night....(My brother in law)
