A wasted season?

Featured Replies

I am not ready to say wasted season but I will say this is how we typically play against the Browns (like we are hungover) and this time it wasn't good enough to escape with a win.

I was going to say sleepwalking, but hungover works too. You couple that with the fact that this was a classic "trap" game between Green Bay and New England, and we're probably lucky the Bengals even scored yesterday. Hopefully this serves as a wake up call, and they play better against the Patriots.

People can make excuses, but the fact remains that the Bengals, w/ Dalton, can not consistently convert on 3rd and short. That is a HUGE problem. The fact that he overthrew Green deep again, is a HUGE problem. W/ the defensive line, the TEs, the WR and two decent other options, and a playmaker in the backfield, the Bengals SHOULD be a top 5 offense. If you can't stay on the field to sustain drives consistently, you won't be. He's just not good enough.

Nailed it. You can win big with a QB that doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he must be accurate and especially on 3rd and 5 or less. If Dalton can't consistently move the chains the offense will sputter no matter how many talented skill guys are on the field...

Easily could've read the first post without looking at who posted it and knew exactly who started the thread. If it's worth a reaction, it's worth an overreaction.

You can win with that type of QB you are mentioning if your coach is good. There's isn't. Too many holes. Dalton was/is the worst QB in the league on 3rd down. Gruden isn't good. Marvin isn't good. All 3 of those guys are just ok or average. Tough to impossible to not have good guys in those 3 spots and be super successful.

Personally I don't think its a wasted season because I already figured how the season would go. It was more directed to those that bought into all the hype about this team being so great.

If they feel let down or not with their expectations being so high 2 months ago.

Try being a Jacksonville fan....

Or Pittsburgh.:sssh:

They're 4 weeks into the season....Forgive me for not overreacting one way or the other yet.

Didn't they start last season 1-4?

Don't you think you are jumping the gun a bit? I mean, a wasted season can't happen after 4 games when you are 2-2. Premature, IMO.

Well with the hype they were selling people about how good they are, 2-2 isn't very good.

Yep and they played like a 1-4 team in the playoffs.

Well with the hype they were selling people about how good they are, 2-2 isn't very good.

Green Bay, San Fran, Houston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Washington were also all playoff teams last year and they all have 2 losses too or more. Which of those teams were also teams people thought could be Super Bowl contenders and even favorites. I know I know you need to try to jump the gun early because you think it proves something, but it is still just 4 games and they are in the same spot as a lot of other teams who also had been talked about as being a really good team.

Now most of those teams do have stronger QB play though, so as I have said all off season even though there is talent it will come down to Dalton. Right now I admit he hasn't shown much improvement, but its a long season so lets see how the rest of the year plays out.

At least the Jax fans weren't sold a bag of crap disguised as a championship team. They were already told they would stink....Bengals tried to convince...and succeeded in making many believe that they were a very talented team and aspirations of great things this year.

I laughed in 2009 when the exact same things were being said about the Bengals team "The 2009 team is the most talented since the Bengals of the 80's" I knew they had a ton of deficiencies then and when the same thing was said about this years team as well as being said one of the most talented in the league I laughed again. I knew there were too many deficincies with this years team. I said it before the season even started and was laughed at by some on here as if I had no idea what I was talking about. I said our QB wasn't good enough to win big games, I said our O-Line was horrible as it's been since Mike Brown let it go by the wayside after the 2005 season, I said the secondary was horrible yet I was scoffed at. Now the excuses are comin g fast and furious...we have 3 guys out of our secondary...so what, they were in the first few games and they still sucked. Our 0-l;ine couldn't block it's way out of a paper bag and I've seen better High School QB's in the NKY area than Andy Dalton.

This team will win some the rest of the way and they'll lose some. They will do what they usually do under Marvin Lewis since he's gotten here and that is they will win the majority of games against bad teams and lose the majority of games against teams with winning records....that's just the way it is and has been since 2003.

Is it a wasted season? Not for me it isn't, I didn't hold them to the high expectations many others held them to this year. I held them to the same expectations as I did last year...they will get to the playoffs, probably with the help of others in the division who are equally as bad and then get spanked.

I am still confused on where the heck you heard people calling the 2009 team better and very talented? It was never said on here, and I never heard it anywhere. Shoot that 2009 team I was arguing with people backing up Palmer trying to say he needed more talent around him because there was not much talent. So not sure where you came up with this? Unless it was made up like you have done before to try to make a point.

Just one article. Btw it was 2009-10 when this same talk surfaced

"CINCINNATI -- Last year at this time, the Bengals were an easy pick as a bounce-back team for 2009.

Carson Palmer was his healthiest in years. The schedule was reasonably easy. Seeds of a good 4-3 defense were planted in 2008 and started to bloom during the 2009 offseason.

From the looks of the Bengals as they finished their offseason workouts Thursday, their roster is much stronger and deeper than last season. Good starters in some spots are backed up by talented young players with potential. On paper, this might be the deepest, most talented Bengals team seen in years."

By the way, that was from John claytonhttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=5301274
