You know what? Maybe not so much......you can certainly slow the pace of a game to keep the score down, and give yourself a shot.......when they did the Air Raid, they wanted to maximize possessions, therefore multiplying their scoring opportunities..

Whitlow gives UK the best chance to win.

Whitlow won the pre-season contest and adds a dynamic that is not there with Smith. And that dynamic would not be there with Towles.

 

Smith seems to be good for X amount of snaps before an injury sidelines him. With half the season gone they need to set a direction and go with it. That would seem to be Whitlow and more 'Wildcat'-type offense. Give Smith a couple series to see if the traditional game can be effective. If he gets hot keep him in. But having a clearly defined #1 QB seems to be a must to build confidence at individual and team levels.

Smith seems to have lost some of his arm strength and cannot force the defense to defend the deep pass. Add to that his lack of mobility in the pocket, and it does not bode well for an offense that is not as talented as the defenses they are facing. Whitlow appears to be the best option at this point.

At this point, I think they have to go with Towles...If he's really worse than Smith or Whitlow, there's no way he can play major D-1. Just no way.

I think Whitlow is the best option that UK has at the moment. Smith has either lost armstrong or courage. He just doesn't look comfortable and I noticed something in his mechanics that seems really odd the other day. Maybe he's afraid of being injured again?

Stoops has forgotten more about football since lunch than I'll ever know, BUT, the way he is shuttling QB's in and out can't be conducive to good quarterback play. Just can't be.

 

Whitlow can't complete basic routes and doesn't even attempt any vertical passes, for those two reasons, I'll take my chances with Max Smith. He is WAY more accurate than Whitlow and when Whitlow is under center (so to speak) everything is an 8 yard slant, cross, bubble screen, or quick out. There is nothing to loosen up the defense and take the lid off, then they can't run because 9 or 10 guys are within 8 yards of the LOS.

Everyone talks about the quarterbacks but I question whether the young receivers really are capable of getting open......and can the OL block long enough to hold out the DL on deep routes? I think these factors are contributing to the grounding of the Air Raid as much as the QB problems.....also can the receivers actually catch the ball.....?

I like Whitlow, but he can't run the air raid. Smith isn't a gamer at all, I know I'm gonna get heat for that. He looks soft, and has zero confidence throwing the ball. Towels a kid who fits the mold of your air raid pocket passer. I say if they want to stick with what they know (the coaching staff) then try out Towels.

If Towles has such a slow release, then how is he the one that fits the air raid mold? The ball has to get out of your hands immediately if half of your plays are bubble screens and quick throws.

I think the staff is trying to save PT this year bc they know it's a lost cause. Give him a year under the system. Give him more weapons next year and the let him go. If PT was playing now and not playing well, everyone would say "well he doesn't have any talent around him" and the the staff should RS him. I don't miss coaching in college bc dang if you, dang if you don't. Give this staff time.

OC Neil Brown likes pocket passers, not QB's that run. Plus, you don't have to throw "deep" so to speak in the Air Raid. Max needs to just go through his reads and get the ball out of his hand. Use Whitlow in the wildcat and he'll be ready if Max does get injured.
