One more thought.

 

The problem with a board like this is it leads to discussion about teams and "how they'll do down the road." That's what my post was. Problem is it takes away the fact that a team went out and WON A GAME which they should always celebrate especially a rivalry game. Cooper players should not have to hear "well what about...." They should enjoy their win. Know they've got work to do but, again, enjoy their win.

 

Posts like mine sometimes make that more difficult for a Cooper player who might be reading this. Boys, excellent work. Don't let my thoughts (as legit as I think they might be) damper your satisfaction for a job well done.

 

No ill will Clyde. Your posts are always good. The Coop Squad has much work to do if they are to make the playoffs and like you said have success down road. Just taking one at a time.

 

I will say this. Those who under estimate Boone will get beat. They are no where near as bad as those first two losses and I would not be shocked to see them finish high in their district.

I understood what you meant Clyde.

Cooper seemed to do what they needed to do to keep the game in control. Went up 15-0 right off the bat and maybe was a little complacent at times, the players not the coaches.

 

One thing I realized last year early on is matchups are everything. Boone's physical line always matches up against coopers small line and for years have made it tough. Remember last year, Coopers best team to date, won by less against Boone as they did last night. Only a 10-0 win last year.

 

Cooper has their toughest stretch of the year in their next 4 games, CC, SK, Scott and Conner. They will need to grow up fast and should be a tough run. Now is when the season really starts.

I expected myself for the offense to be a little more explosive. Running game I expected to be a little better. Most of the time Cooper seems to go with spreading the other team out. The other teams have had big lines which has made it difficult to run against. I am still waiting for Cooper to put a complete game together. They have played well enough to win every game. This is still a work in progress.

On a positive note, the preliminary report for both Diaw and Bacigalupo appears to be that their injuries are not as bad as feared but they both definitely are going to miss time.

Good news.

I expected myself for the offense to be a little more explosive. Running game I expected to be a little better. Most of the time Cooper seems to go with spreading the other team out. The other teams have had big lines which has made it difficult to run against. I am still waiting for Cooper to put a complete game together. They have played well enough to win every game. This is still a work in progress.

I think the one thing that slowed Cooper down in the 2nd quarter was not taking advantage of the one on one's Boone's defense gave them on the outside. They coulddn't cover our wideouts when playing man to man on the outside and some quick slants or streaks would of been huge there. They adjusted it looked like in the 3rd quarter and took advantage of that which led Boone to move their safeties back to cover more and started double covering down field.

 

Cooper's last TD pass was exactly what they needed to do, a quick slant which boone couldn't stop all night. Was the perfect play call.

One thing I said going into the season was that Cooper had a lot of skill players. I have not seen the explosion I expected yet but the good thing is that 5 people have receiving TDs, Fussinger, Morgan, Youngblood(2), Kissel, Henderson. Eventually you will see Bricking and Pauls get receiving TDs.

Was hoping to see Boone take it but I did not think they would.

Just my opinion, but you need an explosive QB to have an explosive offense. Cooper is missing the QB run threat they had last year, and need to adjust for that. The 15 players that they do play will definitely need to stay healthy, because after season starts, that's who they focus on in their practices. Getting the reps will make them all better, so it's a wait and see game with this squad, especially the young lineman.

I somewhat agree and at the same time disagree with the explosive QB needed to have a explosive offense.

 

Different styles can still make an offense successful. You can have a S Alexander and you don't need an explosive QB as an example. Cooper was very fortunate to have one of the best scrambling QBs last year. At the same time AJ Collins was just as much of an impact last year as Morris was. This year the big thing is the line and its continued improvement. If the line continues to improve like it has you don't need a QB that can rush for a 100 yards a game to be explosive.

 

With the balanced offense approach and spreading the ball around it can be just as explosive IMO.

Some quick Random thoughts:

 

Cooper came out strong but after scoring their second touchdown they took their foot off the gas. Note to Cooper players, sometimes when you slow down there is no speeding back up...

Cooper has three or four kids that can really run and play football. Bricking, Morgan, Fussinger, and one other but I am not sure on the name.

Cooper is small, they kinda look like a JV squad.

Cooper adopted the bend but don't break defense.

Cooper made a decision to work on their passing game in the second half instead of running the clock down. Risky, but it is something good coaches do to develop their offense.

And for Clyde, I think this game went exactly as expected. No need for Cooper to worry about anything. They have a nice football team but nothing like last year at this point.

Aaron Floyd played much better at QB. He is so gifted he can't help but get better even though it is not his natural position.

Jerry Marshall had a couple of very nice runs but Cooper's superior speed stopped him each time and Marshall is not slow at all.

Defensively Boone played better. The players have to do what they are coached to do and the light came on for a couple of them that had been struggling.

If Boone would have scored right before half this game could have gone either way.

Kyle Henderson may be the other you were thinking of for Cooper. #10, he has averaaged 11 tackles a game this season and is all over the place on defense.
