Way Back When...1996 Regional Final Beechwod v Dayton (Full Game Film)

Featured Replies

Hand's down one of the greatest games ever played in NKY. Everyone, I present the greatness of Jason Skirvin.

Thanks to Brad Ratliff for downloading this.

One of the coolest atmospheres that I was ever in for high school football. Dayton's last real shot for a state title.

Best part of Skirvin's game is that people would talk to him all first quarter and he wouldn't say a word. After the 1st quarter, nobody said anything to him b/c he was bringing it every time.

I never played against him in high school but I did when I played for the NFF and he was a bad dude.

Can a mod change the title to include (full game film)?

Done.

Dayton was usually a guaranteed win for SK. In 1996 they stomped us.

The game was posted on You Tube and watched all of it. I always knew this was a hell of a game, but forgot how good it was after watching it. Enjoy Dayton and Beechwood fans, as well as fans of other teams. Even though a heartbreaker for Dayton, still one hell of a game regardless.

This is definitely one of, if not the most energy filled and entertaining games I have been a part of in the NKY area. Don't know if I'll ever see one as energy filled again between the players and fans. The atmosphere that night was unbelievable.

Great minds think a lot. I have a thread below.

He also downloaded our game against Beechwood. That was not an exciting game.

Is this the Dayton team that Jason Skirvin was their primary weapon? Whatever happened to him?

Yes; he went on to play as a linebacker some at Georgetown. He was officiating some time back and don't know if he still is. It's been a while since seeing him.

He bruised, or ruptured, an internal organ at Georgetown. He still has one of their best Y.P.C. averages in GT history. He worked w/ me here at TQL for awhile and is at Fidelity now. Great human being. He is an official still. Nobody rocks coach shorts like Skirvin.

It isn't fair to second guess, but after watching the film, why on earth didn't the Dayton quarterback run the ball on 4th down? He had plenty of room. Of course in the heat of the moment it might not be so obvious. Tough game - tough loss.

I thought so too; another big moment was when Dayton didn't score being in the red zone being up 12-6.

I said it then. Beechwood won this one because the team and coaches had played in Big Games before and Dayton wasn't able to rise to the occasion.

That was the question in 1996 and still is today.
