Featured Replies

I hope it is alright to post this here and ask.

Just wanting to educate myself with the teams from the Hooiser state that the Kentucky teams play.

I am watching Richmond play Connersville right now.

From my time traveling all over Indiana back when I had the job where I traveled a lot, I was able to learn and follow a lot of the teams there.

Thanks.

As some have said, usually the Owensboro teams play Evansville teams. Owensboro Catholic always plays South Spencer. Some of the Louisville schools play teams across the river, but you don't see it too much. I can't recall many other games. It seems like Kentucky teams play Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio teams more than Indiana.

Indiana has a rule about how far out of state an Indiana team can play. So, the Indiana teams can be anywhere in Indiana, but when travelling out of state, I believe the team has to be within 50 miles of an Indiana state line. Makes it difficult for most Kentucky teams to play home and home series with Indiana teams.

Interesting. I know a team from Indianapolis came to Boyle County two years ago. That would be pushing close to 50 miles.

Does that apply to only public schools in Indiana or private, also?

I believe it's IHSAA schools. I can try to find out.

I'll check the exact mileage. I got my info from someone I work with who played football and has a son playing now. But it has been over a year since that discussion so I could have the mileage wrong. I k ow it's relatively small though, compared to what some Kentucky teams travel.

............I've always been surprised East Central isn't on more schedules in Northern KY.

EC would be a great gate for a home and home series, with Conner/Cooper/Ryle/Boone being the obvious opponents. I know EC has quite a few conference games they are locked into as well as the rivalry game with Harrison, OH they play every year. They also like to close the season with a Indy school, so there isn't a lot of schedule flexibility.

Most Indiana schools belong to a conference. That leaves them only one or two games to schedule independently . BTW, the schools themselves determine the conference, not the IHSAA. Indianapolis Cathedral does not belong to a conference, so play lots of out of state games within the travel limits. I don't remember the mileage, but there is no overnight stays allowed.

Also keep in mind that Indiana has around 320 football playing schools. Finding games in Indiana would be easier than in Kentucky just because there are 100+ more schools.
