Okay, confusion averted. And your point about success last season and returning starters is a good one. But I would still argue they got that far because western Kentucky 4A was awful, whereas Boyle and Catholic were knocked off by superior teams in earlier rounds. I can give Collins the 5 spot today, but I just can't put them ahead of CovCath, LexCath or Boyle.

 

As a Collins fan I think that it is fair to put them below those three, but I also don't think it is crazy to put them above one or two of them. Yes they lost to SK on a last second field goal and should've beaten them, but there is a lot of talent on this team, and I think once they all get healthy and as the season progresses, they will be a really good team.

 

It may not be fair, but it does help them in the rankings that they were runner-up last year, whether on a weaker side or not, and return everyone.

 

As for a statewide adoration of Collins, I haven't really noticed it. As another poster said, there isn't really anything bad you can say about their program and they are a very fun team to watch. They have also done something very few schools have done in such a short amount of time. I guess that's why people like them.

Am I the only one cofused by the seemingly state-wide adoration of Collins? I know they made the finals last season' date=' but they also lost three regular season games and came out of the west, which didn't have one team in the top 7 of the state in 4A. And when they got to the finals they were absolutely destroyed by Highlands - it was never close. Then they opened this season with a loss at home to a good-not-great Simon Kenton club. I understand that they probably could be good by November, but I'm not sure any of the descriptions I just gave of Collins would have happened to either Boyle or Lexington Catholic.[/quote']

 

Have you seen them play? I realize they had their butts handed to them by HHS in the Finals but they got better as the year went on and played lights out in the playoffs. Now, as far as losing to SK, if they played 10 times, it would be 5-5. They played very evenly but SK's depth pulled this one out for them. They are starting 2 and possibly a third D1 player, not SEC calibre, yet still D1 talent. Now, it is too early to be certain who the 2nd-5th teams are in 4A but one thing is for sure, come playoff time, Collins will be in the mix.

I think Highlands will beat CovCath, twice if necessary, but I'm hard-pressed to think HHS wins by three touchdowns at CovCath in late September.
