Looked through some game film and some of the details on BG's scoring plays.

 

For the most part LexCath played and mostly executed the defensive strategy it needed to - but it wasn't enough to offset the BG talent.

 

The first TD was a play action rollout pass with decent coverage but Fant and Hayes seemed to have telepathic ability with a Fant make a free-lance cut to some open space in the end-zone and Hayes tossing it just right for the score.

 

The busted play for the 5th score was the killer. Hayes was scrambling due to good coverage on a 3rd and forever play. But he threw a strong cross-field pass that went through the defenders hands that could have gone for a pick-6 and gotten the Knights back in the game. Instead it, its caught for a long TD. The QB was right at the line, but not over it and the block on the defender was very hard but not in the back to pop Fant free for a long run after the catch.

 

The Knights forced Hayes to check down and scramble on a lot of plays - but he can run if and when needed so its hard to get the 'coverage sack' on him. Though the score does not reflect it the Knights played the defense they knew they had to - and were still were unable to stop the Purple's outstanding talent.

 

Again, congratulations to the Purples on good win.

While they unfortunately won't meet on the field this year or anytime soon, the purples and birds have one common opponent and most likely two more in Lex Cath and John Hardin. Being a Highlands fan living in Purpleville, I will concede that BG may be as good or better this year if they can defeat the same teams the Birds play in a more convincing fashion. I'm fortunate enough to get to see both teams play several times a year. While I tend to believe HHS has been the better team the past 2 years, I'm not naive enough to think the Purples couldn't beat the birds on a given night. I tend to look at as HHS would win 7 of 10 two years ago on a neutral field and maybe 8 of 10 last year . This year too early to tell. The biggest difference I see between the two programs right now is depth. Yes, both teams platoon and rarely if ever have a kid play both sides of the ball. BG has had very few significant injuries over the past few years. Hopefully their health continues but god forbid an injury to Fant, Hayes or a few O-line guys, BG may struggle against the better teams they are playing this year. Saturday, HHS had 2 starting corners out, and Seth Hope, their best D-lineman goes down in the first series and a backup comes in and plays the game of his life. Didn't even notice Hopes absence until the fourth quarter. Over the past years they've lost starting backs, Qbs and key defensive players and someone steps up and the team doesn't miss a beat. Just an observation from a

high school football fan that doesn't know as much as he thinks he does.

The last time we played Trinity was at Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field in 2010. They eked out a 14-13 win. The Trinity posters (most of them) blamed the close score on their 4th string QB. Our take was that the 4th string QB bailed them out because he scored the winning TD. The Trinity coach was ecstatic to get out of The Big El with the win, and the Trinity fans there were very gracious to us in victory. That's not cheap talk...that is fact, and I was there. I talked to many Trinity fans after the game, and they congratulated us on such a great game. We reciprocated with no sour lemons. We played them four years running, and there was only one game where we did not do well, and that was the game two years earlier when we lost 17-0. We weren't happy about that, but we gave credit where credit was due. Actually, my wife and I were much more upset that a Trinity fan put out a cigarette on one of our bricks that cost our boosters $75 each and we almost had her removed from the stadium.

 

But this thread is supposed to be about our win over LexCath, and I hope that posters stick to that from here on (both sides).:stop:

Maxpreps have Bowling Green ranked # 24 in the country. Up 32 positions. Somebody thinks we are pretty good.

Bowling Green and Boyle only had 100 years to schedule the Birds. So BG ups the anti and now the Birds duck them, hilarious. BG may or may not be the best team in the state, but it's hard to tell from the lackluster schedule. Boyle wins all those state titles in a row until the Birds come to town, then schedule the Birds only to drop them. Credibility is the key now, and with only two or three WORTHY opponents at the beginning of the season you can understand why people outside BG are skeptical. BG should schedule some GCL South teams in Cincinnati and play some better programs in KY if they want to play the we are the best in state card.

 

When the Birds play Elder at the pit and Trinity plays Colerain, if things work out that both KY teams win those games, it will have a HUGE effect on who is #1 in the state. I can't disagree with BG being #1 right now, but there is a lot of football left to be played.

 

As been posted earlier in this thread, BG will have to rebuild for several years before getting close to this years team. Like it or not, being #1 for one season is nothing compared to the Highlands and Trinity PROGRAMS from over the years. Enjoy it while you can. :popcorn:

Oh my goodness!!!! Threadjacking at its finest! I tell you what....All the teams are great. These boys and their parents spend many hours getting ready for games. They do not get paid, they are not famous, and they are just kids.....They are doing it for the love of the game and to build memories!!! Sometimes they are doing it for scholarships.....We are the adults here...or maybe in just age.....I have read so many threads where individuals get upset that someone else is proud of their team....lots of threadjacking goes on.....it is crazy. Sometimes I wonder if the boys out on the field are more mature than us adults.....good grief!!!!

....And besides....Who cares if a team wins a game or not? We all would like to see our team win, however, in the long run, the boys that don't pull off the W will lean more in adulthood. Not everything smells of roses all the time. It is how an individual handles not being the best at everything that ends up being the winner in the end. A person, or team, that handles winning all the time with grace, honor, and dignity is the real winner. A winner that rubs it in constantly is really the loser at the sport and in life. Conversely, a person, or team that handles a loss or many losses with grace, honor and dignity is the true winner....if the person or team knows they did their best can hold their heads up high and know that they did not let themselves, their team, or anyone else down....these are the people that I am most proud of.....the ones who can lose and not be losers!!!

I can vouch that PurplePride92 is a proud product of BGHS and is a solid member of Purple Nation. I had shared many posts with him before now, but I finally met him in our win over Cooper at WKU. He just happens not to live here anymore (and no grudge for that...he's happy where he is).:thumb:

 

 

All we wanted to do was be proud of our team and I prefer it be done in a way that reeks of class and not put anybody else's program down. That's not the Purple Way. And we do not have to ask permission from others to be proud of our program. When our people get out of line here and I see it or hear it, I tell them in no uncertain terms to back off. In 2009, the Highlands football team worked out at our facility. Now, just to show that this is no lie, the BGHS principal is a Newport High grad and played football there. He knows many people who work at HHS. He said that the administration, the coaching staff, and the majority of the players loved our facility. That meant the world to me, especially since it was the 40th anniversary of our proud facility.

 

Now, THAT'S class on both ends!!:irked:

Hayes would be perfect for WKU. He will probably get so many academic scholarships that it won't cost Western much. The kid is really smart. Every Ivy League School wants him, but not much attention from other D-1 schools. The way he scrambled around tonight was much better than last year. One of the best Quarterbacks in the state.

 

WKU grad here and I absolutely love the Hilltoppers. However, if the Ivy League comes calling he needs to go there! Great opportunity for him. Good luck.
