Peal back block on a punt to Scruggs. Xavier Abernathy turned to chase as Scruggs reversed field and Johnson had a once in a lifetime block. Abernathy got our HC player of the game for walking off the field. I'd still be laying in that spot tomorrow night if I got hit like that...

Lord have mercy that was one heckuva block. Is there any video of that out there. The kid that got hit is a decent size kid himself. Too his credit he got up after a few minutes.

 

Only one game in and you can tell a difference in this Holmes team than that of the last two years. This team is not as overall talented as last year's group but infinitely more disciplined. No wild looking socks and attire or ridiculous number of procedure penalties that we saw in abundance from last year's team.

 

Congratulations to Coach Nevels and his staff. The team is really young in spots and is having to address the lack of development of the middle school, freshman and JV program the last two years.

 

Hopefully, they will continue on the uptick.

 

Beal is a really nice player and the QB for HC shows promise, but they looked gassed as a team midway through the second quarter. Holmes began to slowly take control of the LOS from mid second quarter on.

 

Scruggs is a shifty kid who can scoot and he finds crevices. I believe he is getting interest from Indiana State and Central Michigan is sniffing around.

The QB Brumfield did a decent job and I was told he would probably split time with Fred Vickers who is out with an injury right now.

Not surprised by this turnout; I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Scruggs in action.

End of the day HC just didn't have enough in the trenches on either side to keep this one close. Will be interesting to see how they match up with Lloyd and Newport in the trenches...

It was an "Oh God" moment. Perfectly legal block, but I'm sure any coach that saw it right in front of them would have lost his cool a bit trying to protect his guy...

The QB Brumfield is only a sophomore. Have heard Holmes soph class in general is pretty solid and deep with talent...if they stay together.

 

How did Arnold look at LB? Glad he is playing. He wasn't mentioned by Coach Nevels in July because he wasn't going to play...to focus on hoops. Good move to change his mind.

Noticed Markel McClendon is listed on the roster, even though he isn't playing. Would love to see him and Scruggs in the same backfield. Talk about speed!

Arnold looks very good, wears number 10 and his name was called quite a few times for tackles, he is very active and I am glad he decided to play, something no one has said, I think Holmes only had one punt, but Scruggs can really kick the ball, it was I believe around a 45 yard punt and very high, in the NC scrimmage he had one for 60 yards( with the roll) and he is dangerous back there, he has the option to run it at times, will be a fun team to watch and will be a big test next week against a very good Scott team.
