I Am Against the Death Penalty Overall But...

Featured Replies

Other than the fact that they were black and the victim was white, what leads you to believe they killed him because he was white?

Because he's dead? And he's white? And if it was reversed it would be racial. I'm tired of racism being portrayed as one directional. If a mixed guy profiled a black kid and made a national soap opera, then these guys profiled a white one. It's not hard to imagine, yet you poo poo it.

I'm in the minority here but I believe the death penalty should be used more often than it currently is.

I agree that there should be no doubt before it is used, but there are more than a few people serving life + sentences who don't deserve to still be around.

You and I are on the exact same page.

How can I say that? Because they said they were bored and decided they were going to kill a guy. They saw the guy running and decided he was the guy. There are zero indications that race ever came into play.

I read it the same way.

Even though at this point "there are zero indications that race ever came into play", can you guys say with a straight face that this would not be the lead on every night time news program if 3 white punks had killed a black college student because they were bored. It WOULD be all about race if that was the case!

I am against the death penalty even here. Studies show that killing the guilty person does not give additional closure to victims' family members. In fact, oftentimes it is quite the opposite, with the victim's family members knowing that the family members of the executed person now are feeling the same pain. A professor once told me that if you are not willing to stand in the room and flip the switch and kill a person then you really shouldn't support the death penalty. That kind of stuck with me. I am sure if someone was, for example, attacking my wife i could shoot them dead on the spot. However, after an arrest and a trial I don't think I could see that person strapped to a chair and flip the switch on him myself. I'm sure I would want to, but I don't think I could. And frankly, I think I feel better about myself knowing that I couldn't do it. (For the record, I am a registered Republican - fiscally conservative, but middle-of-the-road socially :) )

One thing for sure with the death penalty here is they won't have the opportunity "to get bored" again and repeat this heinous act.

While I agree there seems to be no evidence to date that this was racially motivated, the police in OK said they were "gangster wanna-bes" for what that's worth.

One thing I must agree with others on here is there is no Jesse/Al/etc. sightings here, no riots/protests/etc., no national organization condemnations--Where is the outrage from the anti-gun folks? Wonder if the police will be charged with profiling by arresting these thugs due to their race? This will reek havoc on the arrest %'s in Ada I'm afraid??

Sure are crickets when the shoe's on the other foot, but then that doesn't "feed the narrative" does it??

Who cares if it was racially motivated or not. Anyone who goes out and kills another person because they are bored should be executed. White, black, purple, makes no difference.

Do you really believe that if the colors had been reversed and 3 white guys would have shot and killed a black guy, then said they were just bored and decided to kill a guy that the race baiters wouldn't me all over this?

Let's say the Klan showed up (and YES I do put people like Sharpton in the same classification as the Klan) and began stirring up the people of the area over this would that get the same pass that Sharpton gets when he IGNORES facts?

Ya all need to relax,, just because I said there's no indications that race was a motive doesn't mean I don't agree with you guys that it probably would've been portrayed that way had it been 3 white guys gunning down a black man. I'm sure it would've been, but that is irrelevant to the fact that in this specific incident, race doesn't appear to have been the motive.

Just because the media would make it into some sort of racial issue had it been the other way around, doesn't mean it has to become one here. The only thing that should be a story is an innocent 22 year old tragically lost his life to evil, evil kids. Until you guys brought it up, I had no clue what race any of the 4 involved were, and that's the way it should be. Race is irrelevant when it comes to pure evil.

President is going to have a press conference at 12 today.................................NOT !

Maybe if there were more places like this where the blatant hypocrisy of the media is pointed out then it would change, but as long as the MSM is willing to carry the water for race baiters like Sharpton and as long as there are people (I can PLACE at least TWO names of people who post here) that fall immediately into that mode then the hypocrisy needs to be brought out. There was at least one person here when news of the Martin shooting broke immediately made it about race. It happens and as long as one side is given a pass for letting it happen it will continue.

Will Obama the Great and Powerful wade into this like he did the Martin shooting?
