Tim Tebow’s numbers say it all: 1-for-7, -1 yards, 1 INT, 0.0 rating

Sometimes the box score really does tell the story.

So we’ll just start by telling you what Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow’s stat line was in Friday night’s preseason game: 1 completion in 7 attempts, for -1 yards, with 0 touchdowns, 1 interception and a 0.0 passer rating.

Yes, that was negative yardage. The only pass he completed was a short toss to rookie receiver Josh Boyce, who was tackled a yard behind the line of scrimmage. Tebow’s interception was an absolutely horrible play on which he took a shotgun snap, ran a couple of steps toward the line of scrimmage, and then fired the ball way over the head of intended receiver Kenbrell Thompkins, and right into the hands of Tampa Bay cornerback Mason Robinson. He threw a couple other passes into coverage that easily could have been intercepted.

Folks, an NFL quarterback is simply not supposed to look like this.

Ouch!

His numbers say...maybe I need to find a job as a sideline reporter.

His numbers say....move me to another position.

He's certainly not an NFL caliber QB. Arm isn't strong enough, makes poor decisions, poor accuracy. His athleticism has allowed him to make the occasional big play. But you can't convince me he's good enough to be an NFL player at another position. He's not fast enough to be a receiver, not big enough to be a true tight end, and who know's about his hands and route running ability. Some have been able to switch positions in the NFL, but there hasn't been a ton of folks that have been successful doing so. And the fact that the Patriots have only been using him at QB despite losing their top 5 or 6 receivers from last year, probably says everything you need to know about if they believe he can play another position. Belichik is the guy who rather than signing another DB, simply moved Troy Brown to the position and let him play both ways. Right now, it looks like there's a chance he won't even make the team....the Pat's have typically only carried two QB's. I'd love to see him make it in the NFL. But I'd say things don't look good for him.

This is hilarious. So we pick and choose when numbers tell the story?

Cincinnati backup has a great game and everybody shrugs it off and says its preseason it doesn't mean anything.

Tim Tebow struggles in one game and everyone says e can't play QB. Doesn't make sense. Maybe he can't play or maybe it was just a bad night.

Can't really say the numbers tell the story for some and not others. Isn't fair and doesn't really make sense when talking about similar players.

I agree. So let's forget about this one game.

G Att Comp Pct Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD TD% Int Int% Lng 20+ 40+ Sck SckY Rat

35 361 173 47.9 10.3 2,422 6.7 69.2 17 4.7 9 2.5 56 36 8 41 258 75.3

These are his lifetime stats. Not very good, especially the 48% completion rate. That's nowhere near good enough to make it in the NFL, which is a passing league. Think about it....Sanchez was a complete train wreck last year, and Tebow didn't even get a sniff of the field when it came time to replace him. The Bronco's couldn't dump him soon enough, even after he won a few games. And now so far this preseason against the second and third stringers he is 5-19, with 54 yards passing. Apologize for him all you want, he is who he is, and every NFL team he's played for has recognized it. The NFL is about winning games. Mike Vick got another job pretty quickly despite committing pretty horrible crimes because someone thought he could win. Tebow's a saint and a huge draw......if somebody thought Tebow could win, he'd be a starter for somebody right now.

I'm not saying Tebow is better than that Ike is a good QB but to say this one preseason game told us everything we need to know is inaccurate IMO.

One game certainly doesn't tell you everything you need to know. But, when you view as part of his whole body of work, it absolutely doesn't do anything to make you want to change or even slightly revise the general opinion of his ability. Which right now, is not very good.

Obviously he's better than 1-7 as a QB.

He's more like 3-7. Still bad...

True. He went 4-12 for 55 yards in the first preseason game. Against 2nd and 3rd stringers. And guys that are going to get cut.

So bad I still can't understand why sports sites care so much.

Unfortunately there are some that still think he can play QB. If they'd wake up it would go away. Fortunately for the rest of us the Tebow experiment is almost over. Fingers crossed...

I don't hate the guy. He might be a cool dude. I can't stand the hype.
