Walter, seems like you prefer Meyer to Von Handorf. I will take Cole over him everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. Thats not a slight against the Meyer kid. But i believe Cole will have superior coaching and he made the top forty at the fab frosh camp. Cole is the kind of player we have not seen in NKY in awhile.

Walter, I like your adding to the list, Hunter Meyer. Really, really nice player. He's fast, athletic, can finish at the rim, and Ive seen him play an attacking style defense. I'd like to see him add more consistency to his mid-deep range game, and learn how to use his body more effectively around the rim. I think he will be a stud in NKy, and a top player in the region by his senior year. Also, he has some really good guards in front of him, in juniors Austin Schreck, Liam Rabe, and of course, Hatton.

 

This being said, I also really like Cole Heygi of CCHS. Strong kid that is athletic and smart. A hard worker from what Ive seen and heard. I know he played more of a big at CCMS, so ill be interested to see how he converts at the HS level. My gut tells me he'll do fine. I think he rebounds pretty well, and finishes ok. Again, want to see him stretch the floor with the consistent jumpshot (feel like I say this about every kid, a lost art I guess...).

 

Cole VH is probably the best freshman coming into the class in NKy. Maybe, or likely, one of the better freshman in the state at this time. A very smart player, with a nice jump shot (heyy... what do ya know), and is a pretty strong finisher. I, too, will also be paying attention to see how he handles the bigger schools and bigger players in the paint. I think he'll be fine attacking and defending most of the guards. He will also have a really good player to learn from in Nick R. The thing I worry about for Cole is that he comes in so heralded as a freshman, that he may not live up to lofty expectations, only because people will want to see greatness every night, especially since he is the only freshman to start varsity at CCH in this decade. What is Cole's ceiling, that's my question?? He's already really good.

 

To add, Racke, Hemmerich, Luke Moeves, JC Hawkins, Jake Ohmer, McNeil, and Dante Hendrix, will also all be really good in that freshman class and will be fun to watch.

What kind of player is that... Are you talking athleticism? Smartness? "Heraldedness"? Level of play? He is a really good one. We've seen those in NkY.

 

I mean, we've seen Hatton recently, who played varsity as a 7th grader, Bolden who is garnering major d1 attention, Geisler and Rico Johnson who are currently playing d1 ball, and a dozen or more d2 caliber players.

 

Need clarity.

No mention of Gavin Root of John Hardin? Starts JV and played some Varsity this summer. Kid has grown quite a bit and has a strong following at John.

You can even go further back as many of these boys were NKY wildcats playing under Charlie Hawkins and some moved forward as Tarheels. Very good group of kids and would expect many to lead their NKY high school basketball programs.

I listed Meyer because I've seen him more than CVH and know what he is capable of. When I seen Meyer (multiple times), he was going against college level kids and some of the better NKY juniors and seniors.

 

Nothing against CVH but I'm skeptical to how big of a difference he will actually make this year going against a schedule that Covcath will play. Big difference in competition compared to what he saw last year at Villa.

Looking forward to getting to Covcath for my team preview in a couple months and seeing how much he has progressed and matured since last season. (Didn't get to see him over the summer)

Have heard very good things about Luke Moeves, McNeil, and Hendrix. Hope to see the other guys you mentioned this season too.

And just so I am clear...when I say I am skeptical of how big of a difference CVH will actually make this year, I'm talking in terms of the expectations that some of you are placing on him. I expect him to be All 9th region 1st team, the way some have talked on here.

 

Let him be a kid. He is really good...I know that and the football coaches have told me the same about him on that front. I think if he can simply run the team and not turn the ball over much, that should be seen as a success.

 

Let's see how he does against James Bolden or Zach Pangallo or some of the other varsity pg's in NKY before claiming him to be "the kind of player we have not seen in NKY in a while."

From NKY, I'd add Cheeseman at Ryle and Freppon from NCC to the list of top players. Also, I remember a Bertsch? from Camp.co a few years ago and thought he would be a real nice player.

I agree! Cheeseman was impressive. Freppon has talent in both football and basketball, I am sure he will be strong for the hill!

I believe Jake Ohmer played for Terry Downs NKY Wolfpack team. They later became the Knights.
