Top Players in Class of 2017

I think CVH will have a strong run at CCH. I hope he doesn't take long to get past the "I'm just a frosh so I'll defer to the older guys" thinking.

I had never heard of him prior to last summer. I talked to both Scott and Nick Ruthsatz and they both raved about how well he had played with the varsity that summer. He would have gotten varsity minutes as an 8th grader. He would have been the first guard sub. Very smart player. Doesn't force too much. He blended in well at VMA. Didn't try to be "the man." He'll do well.

As to the "why Markel left" debate you'll forgive me if I believe wholeheartedly that he would STILL be at Holy Cross if Erik and his uncle were still on the bench and/or they had a lot of talent returning. The rest is rationalization.

I agree with you on that. But he has a "valid reason" for leaving a private school, and the state can't say he is not eligible because of his reason.

Have never questioned CVH athletic ability. I simply said his numbers were inflated because of the competition. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. Has nothing to do with his skill at all. In fact, I stated several times in here I felt he was a very good player. I'll see him again at the NKU Elite Camp along with Ethan Snapp, Tanner Brougton, and Carson Williams and I'm sure I'll still have the same opinion of him (being a good young player). My original point, if you would've read my posts, was that I think people in this thread are setting unrealistic expectations for a kid playing his first year of "big" varsity basketball as a freshman. Let him be a kid because all this hype is going to do is bring a lot of criticism when he doesn't live up to certain expectations by some on here.

As far as my work, unlike Rick and Skinny, this isn't my full time job. I simply do what I do to promote the local athletes and get them more exposure. Again, unlike them, I'm not in this just for the money. I've never proclaimed to be a journalist or anything of that nature. But I do get paid to cover sports in NKY and most all of the coaches will tell you I do a pretty damn good job at it. If you don't like the way I do things, that's fine, but I give kids from all schools exposure and do anything I can to help them out. Ask Lawnboy13 what I've done throughout the summer, ON MY OWN TIME AND DIME, to help out these kids and help them progress both on and off the court. I think you'd be surprised. Hell, a few of your Covcath boys were involved as well. I'm also one of the few on here touting Dixie and Boone as legit region contenders but I guess that is me playing the "Holmes homer" card, too, right?

Bolden came in to his freshman year with a lot of hype and NONE of it was from me so your comment that I think the sun rises and sets on Holmes basketball is completely false. I touted Drew McDonald more as a frosh than I have any other kid to come through NKY since I've been doing this....yes, Bolden included. I wasn't even touting him last year until I saw him first hand against St. Henry and realized just how special he was.

As for the transfers, Holmes and Holy Cross aren't the only two schools in NKY to receive transfers so let's get rid of that now. Every school gets transfers. It's apart of sports these days whether you like it or not. Technically, CVH is a "transfer" since he played a varsity sport last year. But I guess he doesn't count since he is coming to Covcath, right?

I don't know much about the Harriett situation or I would've responded. Again...these are all questions for the KHSAA, not me. If information is presented to the KHSAA and they feel it is substantial enough to rule a kid eligible, why should it matter?

Hope my tone doesn't come off the wrong way in this response, as I mean nothing personal by anything I'm saying.

You know the rules Walter as well as I do, he was a 8th grader and it wouldn't have matter if he did attend Villa or not (which he did not), the rules for transfers don't begin until you are a Freshmen in HS and play a varsity sport. Come on Walter don't make things up, you understand the rules better than that!

I'm sure Rich Skinner will chuckle at the statement that he's in it for the money.

My point was it's a full time job for him. Didn't mean it as he could care less about the coverage and simply does it to pay the bills. I think Skinner does a pretty solid job with his coverage and I have had several conversations with him. Good dude.

Walter was the personal chauffeur to the Breds Jake Smith, Jake Schulte, & Ben Weyer to the thursday workouts in Cincinnati with Sherwin Anderson and crew. :thumb: and I also think Rabe from Dixie, and quite a few of the Holmes kids as well.

He was coming to Holmes whether Erik and Andre left or not. FACT.

Looking forward to seeing him the 17th (I believe is the date) at the NKU elite camp.

I'm not making things up. My point is he was at a different varsity program last year and now is at Covcath. Why is it ok for him, given BS is apparently a feeder school of Villa, but not other kids to choose to go to a different school if that is what's best for their family?

His family is doing what's best for him both socially and athletically, are they not? How is that different than any other kid that plays sports?

I can guarantee you know nothing about McClendon or his situation (just as I know nothing about CVH) so why make accusations that he is going to Holmes for this reason or that reason if you haven't personally talked to Markel, his family, OR the Khsaa?

Do you have an issue with the Moeves boys transferring to Newcath as well?

What about the kid from Campbell Co that transferred to SK for football but started for Campbell Co last year?

Spencer Holland, Will Stuhr, Drew Shelton, and Tanner Moeves are a few of the other names who were in there because of me.

So, this is why we hear so much about these kids from Walter... I know he has proclaimed Holmes as his school, but he has provided "exposure" for a lot of NCC kids and Liam Rabe. Not to say he hasn't for others, but doesn't seem to be as much. So, basically, is Walter hyping his program through the kids? Or, hyping the kids through his program? I'm confused.

Looking forward to seeing him the 17th (I believe is the date) at the NKU elite camp.

If CVH is going to go to the NKU elite camp on Saturday, remember he just might be a tad tired Saturday morning, as he will be playing in a scrimmage game on Friday night vs. the Campbell County Frosh.

I'm a cynical guy, Walter. It's easy to say that now.

I like for this age group

NCC-youngest Moeves

CC-CVH, Brent Angel, Gunner Shue

Dixie-Hunter Myer

Conner-Spencer Hemmrich

Cooper-Sean McNeil, Dante Hendrix I also believe they had a big kid move in but don't know much about him

SK-Cameron Rack, JC Hawkins, Timmy Contrell

Ryle-Braden Cheesman

Campbell County-Cole Heigy

Of these kids CVH is the only one seeing major varsity time. Racke, McNeil and Cheesman probably see some time with Racke seeing more than the other two with his ability to defend. I believe this list changes as we get closer to 2017 because some of these kids are two sport kids. I believe this will be the last year we see CVH on the football field due to the football coach will want his QB to be a full time football kid. Looking forward to hoops season, can't get here fast enough.

Is there a player in NKY that can over take CVH as the best player in this class? Four years ago nobody thought BHATT would be the number two player in the ninth his senior year, then Bolden exploded last year.

It's why you never project based on jr high and frosh results.
