Highlands is ranked because they are Highlands and have earned the respect of sports writers across the nation.

 

People say these polls mean nothing, well I say you are wrong, Highlands represents the State of KY whether you like it or not and their numbers speak volumes regardless of whether these polls include teams that people believe should be ranked ahead of them or not.

 

Highlands has absolutely zero to prove to anyone but themselves imo.

Dale and company will set goals, people will laugh at their goals and expectations and at the end of the day Highlands will come through once again but of course someone will twist it, bend it, hate it, and try to find a way to cheapin it some way somehow.

 

I feel sad for the Haters and naysayers as they should be proud of what Highlands and T and others have done for this State instead of trying to find a way to discount and defeat their accomplishments...Just sayin LB, LOL :thumb:

I am surprised that this poll has Highlands as the best team in Kentucky. I can't wait for the season to start and we can see just how good this iteration of the Bluebirds are.

I didn't know the GCL had more than one level. The truth is Highlands from KY will be doing nothing more than representing Highlands from KY. Just like Elder will be representing Ohio. It's two teams, and one cannot make a "blanket statement" or decide which state has the best football this year, solely based on one game. :popcorn:

 

Two years ago Trinity went into the pit and gave Elder their worse loss in school history, did that make KY football better than Ohio football, no, all it did was make a statement that T was better than Elder.

National rankings are nothing but someone's opinion. Anyone who puts a lot of stock into something that is so hypothetical and takes it serious as fact is just fooling themselves.

 

It's neat to see them mentioned but really doesn't mean much.

 

As far as determining whether HHS is really the 23rd best team in the nation, you're right - it doesn't mean much. But getting these rankings are very important for the players at Highlands. It brings recognition and attention from colleges. They see Highlands ranked nationally, so they take a closer look at the talent there.

 

I've always thought that that was Dale's motivation for trying to get nationally ranked - more attention for his players from schools that otherwise would never think to check out a little school in northern KY.

They are talking about this game as a must win just to have a chance at a .500 record. They are very concerned about this game. To use their words..' If their JV guys are the guys they are counting on this yr then they will change their tune real quick. That was a really ugly loss to Highlands last yr at the pit, Highlands rolled on them like Trinity Varsity rolled on Elder.

Will Highlands change their D to win this game? They went w/ that 2 down lineman look last year against CovCath in the 2nd half of the regular season game. It looked like Weinrich wanted to keep it for when H faced CovCath again in the playoffs and used the rest of the regular season to fine tune it. As a result, Elder dominated /w their running game. With the team being extremely deep and talented this year, will he go back to his 3-4 to get an extra hand on the ground against their rushing attack (assuming Elder's strength is the run again?)

They beat Moeller and only lost to Colerain by 1 point last year. so I'm not sure I agree with your second tier assessment. Is Moeller also in the second tier? Would Colerain be considered a second tier team if it was in the GCL. Who is in the first tier? X by itself?

Could it be the Elder faithful has heard that THIS could be the best team EVER at HHS? Actually, I think it's funny how Elder and some other schools take this approach when there is a chance to lose to the Birds. I would think that Elder is the favorite by playing at home. Making excuses before the season even starts? What's up with that?
