I'm hearing that the Elder faithful are not very confident in this years team. The overall talent and numbers are down. They are talking about this game as a must win just to have a chance at a .500 record. They are very concerned about this game. To use their words..' Losing to Trinity is one thing, losing to anyone else in the state of KY is unacceptable'

 

I can understand that, cause HHS would be a division 3 school in Ohio. I think the Panther faithful would burn the school down if they lost to an OH D3 school. You can't lose to the little ole Bluebirds!

Actually meant to ask "how in the world does Ramsey have a job over at Elder"? With parents only expecting a .500 season tells me the faithful may be getting restless.

 

Either way, I'm hoping both HHS and Elder are undefeated going into this game.

I didn't know the GCL had more than one level. The truth is Highlands from KY will be doing nothing more than representing Highlands from KY. Just like Elder will be representing Ohio. It's two teams, and one cannot make a "blanket statement" or decide which state has the best football this year, solely based on one game. :popcorn:

 

Two years ago Trinity went into the pit and gave Elder their worse loss in school history, did that make KY football better than Ohio football, no, all it did was make a statement that T was better than Elder.

They have the all Boys schools (the GCL - South), the all Girls schools (the GGCL - Girls GCL) and the co-ed schools (the GCL Co-Ed, formerly the GCL-North) you can check it out at http://gclsports.com/ All of the GCL-S schools have been OH Div I until this year. LaSalle will be Div II this year. For several years, St X, Elder and Moeller seem to have looked at LaSalle as the "red haired foster child" of the league, so another tier happens in their minds.

 

Oh, the fans from Kentucky think that Highlands is only representing Highlands and that may is absolutely true. However, in the minds of many (not all) of the Elder players and fans, Elder is out to represent the state of Ohio and show that Ohio football is better than Kentucky football, they are not just representing themselves. In the minds of many of the posters on the Ohio board that I sometimes read, the state as a whole may have tied in the "Border War" with Ky last year, but it is what the DI schools do that matters.

Let's not kid ourselves, Highlands is a fine program for KY and Ohio. As someone else stated, it would be foolish to think they would be top team in TX, FL or Cali. That is why these things are silly.

 

Look at the high school hockey rankings by USHSHO, the first 15 teams are from Minnesota. They don't care about including all regions, they just look for the best. I would imagine this is really how a poll should look for HS football if done right.

They beat Moeller and only lost to Colerain by 1 point last year. so I'm not sure I agree with your second tier assessment. Is Moeller also in the second tier? Would Colerain be considered a second tier team if it was in the GCL. Who is in the first tier? X by itself?

 

The GCL is trendy, in the early 2000s Elder was on top, shifted to X after that and now to Moe it seems with Lasalle always the doormat. Colerain would always be in the top half.

He also puts a good team on the field every year and plays a very tough schedule every year. Elder will be solid and HHS better tackle better than they did last year or that RB will get 45 carries. I think most Elder fans think the team will be better than 500 this year and think they will beat HHS at the Pit. Hope they are wrong!

That's what I was asking before. I don't think that Mueller and Weinrich really looked to change their scheme to beat Elder. I think that they were forcing their players to learn the scheme better b/c it was a change (from the outside looking in) and there was no better way to prepare against the run like playing Elder. It seemed like it was all in the idea of getting ready for playoffs.
