Don't agree with this idea. Heck, we can't even get rid of the penny and hey are so useless it's not even funny.

I think a couple of us BGP members need to test this theory out and participate in a "field study" of our "local establishments". Who's in? :thumb:

It is mathematically impossible to eliminate pennies. Though pennies do suck unless you need them and actually have them. Not a better feeling that hitting exact change.

People have been using quarters at the BA in Newport for years anyway.

Couldn't retailers round to the nearest nickle like they round to the nearest penny now? For example, something for $1.45 with sales tax comes to $1.537 or rounded up to $1.54. If they got rid of the penny, my assumption is it would round to $1.55.

I guess any retailer could charge whatever they want to eliminate pennies from their transactions, but that has nothing to do with taking it out of circulation since there are more than just retail exchanges.
