She was 24 & he was 18 and graduated...this is ridiculous.

If he was 18 and out of school it is ridiculous. I didn't see that anywhere and her resigning certainly doesn't look good.

What's up with NKY teachers? Can no one up there keep thier pants on...

Two consenting adults are in a relationship and it costs one their job? We lived is a warped society.

IF she's telling the truth and the relationship happened after he graduated, I hope she sues the nuts off of Bellevue.

Fixed that for you. :-) I don't understand why this became a new story before it has been confirmed that a law was even broken. Obviously, all of the aforementioned are at stake when throwing around such allegations. Why lead with a story before facts are available confirming an inappropriate relationship?

On a related note, as someone with a background in education, this situation scares me. Clearly, this story shows that all it takes these days is some unconfirmed accusations to get front page news status and have a career and reputation ruined. Similarly, it also only takes one student who has it in for his or her teacher to start spreading a few unfounded rumors to get a story like this snowballing. It's a slippery slope when the media starts sensationalizing stories that haven't quite reached "newsworthy" status and I wish they'd be a little more cautious before putting people's livelihoods at risk.

Can't if she resigned.

I don't agree with the law, but do these people even read the Internet or watch the news?

It's to dang hot in these here parts, lol

I would think that if she resigned instead of being fired there may be something to the claim by the school.

May not have broken a law but may have broken rules of employment. Many places have restrictions on dating others at their place of employment. In almost all cases someone with any kind of influence over another is not allowed to have a relationship with that person.

True, but if they just talked while he attended there and waited until he left or graduated. I could see her saying the heck with this and leaving, then bring up something like a defamation suit. We will see.

There is probably more to this than we will ever know. If she does not have tenure you can fire her for really no reason. Tenured, now that's another story. I'm betting some kind of discussion took place that this was her best option. The only thing that brings up a red flag is notifying the police. You don't do that unless you believe it happened while he was underage and a student. Otherwise, there would be no need.

But I'm sure once it was known, even if he was out of school, they felt the need to check on it, or have the PD do it.
