You fail to be educated, because you do not want to believe is it those closet to your beliefs that are the cause of this mess and many more like it throughout the US and the world. You couldn't be more wrong. My beliefs are shaped and changed on a daily basis. I have no set core of beliefs and for you to act like you know my set core of beliefs is an uneducated and foolish statement. My beliefs at 8:53am could be different by 8:53pm tonight based on what happens to me and mine in that 12 hour span. I don't know who the liberal, union democrats are that failed Detroit. I don't know their politics, their economics or their beliefs. They didn't fail Detroit because they were liberal, union democrats. They failed Detroit because of their actions not because of what people call them or label them. All labels are is a copout to assign blame.

Think about that for a second....You work for a company with 50 employees.....Means 20-25 of them can't read the handbook. If they can't read, chances are they aren't well educated in other areas such as math and finances. It's a cruel cycle.

They had to shut down a lot of their public high schools a few years ago. The school Jalen Rose went to is shut down. A lot of charter schools have popped up the last couple years hopefully to make a difference. But the whole situation is hard to explain unless you see it. It is nothing like NKY or Cincy. Think of Cincy when OTR was at its worst. Now imagine 90% of the city being the same way at the same time. It's a vicous cycle that hasn't been helped by corruption at the top.

Outside of the like 15 block radius where the casinos , lions , red wings and tigers stadium is located this city is a war zone . 47% of the city is illiterate, twice as many people retired collecting pensions than working. 40% of street lights don't work , average time it takes for police to respond to a 911 call is 58 mins. 11x higher murder rate than NYC. There used to be 300k manufacturing jobs today 27k in the city . The suburbs of Detroit are nice well kept place to live. But the city of Detroit is a cess pool. They only have themselves to blame for electing corrupt official after corrupt official. Two previous mayors forces out of office and the head of city council was forced to resign because of relations with a minor. Police chief forced out to do relation with an employee. Detroit is the model for why liberal economics don't work. Bankruptcy is needed to fix the problems. A bailout won't work without bankruptcy first. Take a 1960 statistic when Detroit had the highest per capita income of any major city in the country; add 50 years of liberal Democratic rule, and the result is a city in ruin that is now about 1/3rd the size of it's former self. Pay attention America, we no longer need to point to Europe to see our country's future if we keep on our current path!!

July 23, 201313 yr NO excuse for 47% of the population to be illiterate. Didn't I read recently that 40 percent of Kentuckians have trouble reading and writing? Why yes, I did. Cities all across the country. not just Detroit, have lost population over the past several decades. White flight is what it's called.
