Grant County 2013/2014

Featured Replies

Keys for Grant County, that I see...

Johnson - Absolutely will need to shoot the ball more this year. Apparently the kid's got a decent shot, but has been always told to look to pass. That's fine, if you've got 3 or 4 other weapons on the court. But, this year, I think they'll need 12-15 from him per game.

Cummins - Had some very nice games for the Braves last year. This year, if Carr's not there, then he may not find himself with as many open opportunities due to double-teams elsewhere. They'll need him to find a way to get open or create his own shot, and still have that success with defenses much more aware of him.

Saylor - Wow, when's the last time GC had a 6-4 post player? Seems like they've always been undersized at that position. The kid's athletic and can run up and down the floor, and even shoot the three, but the key for me is how he plays with his back to the basket in their half court offense.

Schedule - Seemed to be a point of contention during/after last year. Well, it's definitely been upgraded. Boone County, Campbell County, South Oldham, Oldham County, St. Patrick, Holy Cross, and Lexington Christian have all been added to this year's schedule, and should be more competitive than last year's games against Shawnee, Bellevue, Calvary Christian, and Berea. So, Braves' fans expecting another 23-4 regular season better be realistic about their expectations. However, I feel that with this schedule, the team will likely be better prepared come tournament time (which, in my opinion, is what really counts).

Hicks is a capable player as well.

Agreed but he's no Tyler Carr. Stil see those guys struggling without Tyler because they won't get the open looks that came with Tyler drawing double/triple coverage.

I watch a lot of 8th and 9th region basketball. I can normally tell you the projected starters for most of the 8th region teams. I think this is a transition year for a lot of teams. I think the Oldhams will be good, but can anyone name three starters for any of the Oldhams. Collins lost a lot. Simon lost a lot. Owen and Gallatin lost a lot. Anderson lost some, but Anderson and Grant may have the most talent coming back (even without Carr), as a result, Grant's status has improved in my opinion. My preseason picks.

District 29. Collins and Anderson

District 30. South Oldham and North Oldham

District 31. Owen and Henry

District 32. Grant and Simon

I think the 32nd is the only district that I would bet money that those 2 represent their district in the region tourney. Walton and Williamstown are down.

Gallatin is a dark horse along with Eminence if Dixie returns.

Shelby is a definite possibility. Spencer may be better but that is a brutal district for them. Little hope.

Oldham could be good enough to win their district I just don't know much about them at the moment.

Picking the 32nd won't be especially challenging this year. Looking forward to see how Coach Brannen adapts at WV, but they will struggle this year.

Talked to coach Grammer this weekend. Said they have received an invitation to participate in the Kreul Classic in Florida over Christmas break. Looks like a very big deal for the kids and program.

Carr is gone but Grant County will be just fine. Wouldn't be surprised if they win the 32nd and make a run in the regional.

I think that might be laughable. they might make the regional tournament but will probably have a losing record for the season

Any chance GC had to win the district left with Tyler.

Yup...

Where did he end up transferring to?

I believe Shelby Valley with previous coach. That's the rumor... We all know what that can be like.

Now your post might be laughable. They will make the regional easily (with SK) and will not even come close to a losing record. Carr is going to SV but Grant will do fine without him.

Are u sure its SV?

Any team that lost its best player and not to mention the best player in the 8th region will not be fine. They were a good team with Carr but the truth is they will be average at best without him.
