According to what I've read, Region 1 is between Graves County and Heath. Neither has a strong "signature win" this year, Graves did beat University Heights early in the year by a couple of points.

 

1st is a toss up with Graves County probably the favorite as long as the Cavette kid stays on the floor and does not get suspended anymore...without him they are an average team...Marshall County is probably the 2nd pick to win the Region...after that I would say Heath and then either Tilghman or Mayfield would be the fourth seed in the regional. Tilghman has the talent to beat anybody but they are young...probably a year away...Mayfield is the dark horse as with the five starters any one of them can jump up and bite you if they are hitting the threes....but the first region is known for having a few upsets in the first two rounds so should be interesting as of course all of those predicitions above are predicated on the teams taking care of business in the district tournaments. Should be a fun time in the upcoming weeks in high school basketball.

Better draw for the 10th than last year when they had the #1, #2, #3 or 4 and #5 ranked team in their bracket.

One of these years, the 15th Region will get a favorable draw at state.

 

But Male, Eastern, J'town or Fern Creek isn't it. Whoever wins the 15th (Pike Central, Belfry, Paintsville and Johnson Central appear to be the favorites) probably shouldn't make a long-term hotel reservation in Lexington.

Let's not kid ourselves here. The only way the 12th Region representative was getting anywhere is if they drew the 14th, 15th or 16th. Don't be surprised if Boyle County, who is currently 9-9, makes it to Rupp.

There are no good draws for the 14th, but it seems like we usually draw another mountain region, 6 or 7 (Louisville), or 11 (Lexington).

OK, let's just say a 9th region team runs the table and plays who I think is the favorite from each region. They possibly would have to beat: O'Cath, Pendleton Co., Scott Co. then in the finals play S. Laurel/E-town/JH/Male. :eek: :eek:

A lot can happen and change, before Sweet 16 rolls around...which to me, makes this a more special draw.

 

With the exception of 2-3 Regions, with heavy favorites by most....any of the teams listed above and those that elevate their games, have a chance to make it.

First game Pettigrew is the MVP, 18 or so pts and 10 rbs. Next game the refs call two early CHEAP, and I mean CHEAP fouls on Pettigrew and the Panthers were finished. He had 2 points in 11 minutes.

 

I would love to see SL/Etown again, Pettigrew has now garnered enough attention that he won't get those cheap fouls called against him. I bet SL doesn't like the draw one bit!

C'mon now, don't act like E-town got cheated -- this game wasn't played in London with local officials. Pettigrew did not play smart defense, and SL ran plays right at him. He was not disciplined enough on defense to stay in the game.

No i won't say they were cheated, however, the fouls were ridiculous. No question about it. SL was the media darling story of the tourney last year and it seemed to me that most everything went in their favor. Just my opinion. I just hope Etown can get back to Rupp! JH is very tough!!
