Really sad that this type of thing happens in New York, Chicago, L.A., etc. daily. No big news stories or outrage. Guess Al Sharpton picks and chooses his targets of "outrage". If it hadn't been for his and Jesse Jackson's feigned outrage, we wouldn't know anything about this shooting. It's a tragedy. Period.

Adults kill 17 year olds daily after the adult got beat up by the 17 year old? Wow. Never knew that. I guess I'll keep my kids isolated here in Ky where things like this NEVER happen.

July 8, 201313 yr I'm pretty sure I'd know if I was being beaten to an inch away from my life. Then again, I'm not stupid enough to follow random strangers and provoke them to violence either. His broken nose and the lacerations on the back of his head tell me all I need to know. Sure wish I had a gat on me when my nose was broken and received two black eyes when I was a senior in high school. I'd have had 99 problems but the chump who blacked my eyes and broke my nose wouldn't have been one. Broken nose and having my head slammed against the concrete would make me think I may die.....just saying.

By then you would have started losing consiousness which can happen with repeated blows to the head. You need to use deadly force before you get to that point when you are still thinking somewhat logically and have the ability to use deadly force. I will agree with you, GZ acted like an idiot, but stupidity is not enough to charge for murder. I would have to think 99+% of high school fights do not end in death, in most cases I would guess when someone just gives up, the other claims victory, taunts the loser a little and people move on. If someone from the street who I had no idea who there were was on top of me and repeatedly beating me, the thought that if I cannot get out of this situation I could die would certainly cross my mind. Secondly, was the fight with the chump who blackened your eyes and broke your nose while you were on your feet and both where throwing punches at each other? If so, it would be impossible to say your life was in danger since you had the ability to flee.

July 8, 201313 yr Touche. Although I'd argue that this case is pretty unique. Unique, sure. But more so sensationalized due to the racial component. Every case has its oddities making them different from every other case and I presume this is one of a few hundred "self defense" claims made this year alone.

It simply comes down to asking the question, "does the evidence presented show that GZ had an intent to murder TM or was he simply defending himself?"
