I'm going to respectfully disagree with you on this. I hate to say it, but beechwoods frosh team was pretty darn good. Was as good a freshman team I've ever seen. Most those kids were 2 year starters on the frosh team and some were 3 year starters. Hard to compete with that. Not to mention, the stringer kid is a stud. I'm sure that's gonna upset some SK fans, sorry......

 

He definately is very good. The kid is a special baseball player and I don't think you will see him playing football that much longer..

Ancient History. There is a kid named Dylan Powell at SK who will grab bigger headlines, gain more yards and score more TD's. With a huge, mobile OL a senior QB and talented receivers Powell will be running in secondaries full of blocked cornerbacks. He will never have run against a defense with 8 or 9 defenders in the box. Oh, and he has been clocked in the 40 at camp at 4.38.

He did very little against the NCC freshman team last year, and at no point did you say that he was that fast. Sorry, the eye in the sky don't lie. If he is half the player his dad was, he will be special. I'll give you that. But I'm sorry, no way in hell he ran a 4.3 forty. Ide be surprised if he could run a sub 4.6 at his age. This has been discussed thoroughly in another post.

 

The stringer kid at this point in their careers is head and shoulders better. Now, lets see where they are at when they are both seniors, Powell may pass him up.

 

The best player on that frosh SK team last season was the RB, norton. He was at NCC in the spring, but I believe he has since left there as well. He's the brother of the Brossart catcher that was drafted in baseball.

That's the problem with so many of these kids today, why limit yourself. Kids don't understand, as well as the parents, There are no guarantees in sports.

I agree 100%. Play everything you can as long as you can. I know a number of area high school athletes who made all star teams, some of whom that are playing at the college level, that will tell you their biggest regret from high school - quitting a sport to focus on another one.

 

1. Playing high school sports is a once in a lifetime experience that creates memories and friendships that often last a lifetime.

 

2. Sometimes that sport you love the most in high school is not the sport you are best at and have the best chance to play at the next level.

 

The sport that I would never make my only sport - basketball. This is the toughest sport to move on to college in IMO.

 

The sport more people should be playing - football. It will raise your all around strength and athleticism more than any other sport.

I don't know how any team in 6A thinks that they realistically can beat St. X or Trinity. KHSAA is doing everyone a disservice by not allowing the two best teams to play for the State Championship. The past three years, if on an opposite bracket from Trinity, St. X would have been in the final game in Bowling Green. You can't tell me that Male, Scott County, and PRP were the second best teams in 6A the past three years. Not buying it. So, this year there will be no change. St. X I think fixes its problem of falling in the postseason, even if that means a loss in October. I really think this coaching staff will make adjustments and the players on St. X are the better ones this year. You can't teach talent and that is what Trinity has had for 3 years. This year, St. X has a lot of talent at almost every position. That is the difference. That is what will prevail when its all on the line in November. I just wish that game wasn't a regional final...

Absolutely agree. Teams should be seeded based on final season rankings. 1 should play 2 in the finals. Will never get done, biggest reason I suspect they would use, money.

In 2010 and 2011 X was not the second best team. 2010 Ryle fit the bill much better and 2011 I would have taken Scott county over X. I watched all the games between the teams in question and X was not #2 those years.

I believe ballard and male will surprise a lot of people.

Since Travis Eliot went down with injury, Ryle's winning percentage is less than 30%. . Owen Hauck offense is not effective without a d1 caliber back. Hiring an internal candidate for OC does not help the situation IMO. I predict that if Boone starts lighting up the scoreboard with their new offense, discontent in Union will ferment to open rebellion.

 

IMO, Ryle has a couple of young backs that this might not be there breakout year, but they will be productive. They will be D1 scouted and have a host of offers by the end of their junior to senior season.

You do know how many NKY kids have schollies to D1 schools from 2013, right? 2014 has one. Look at 2013, two of the best defensive players are walking on at EKU. The big guy at CC is going to NAIA GTown and he's a stud. The QB from CovCath is going to Dayton and they don't even offer athletic scholarships.

I know it's a play on words, but he said they would be "D1 scouted" and receive "offers". I would say all the players you mentioned that went to NAIA schools and walked on at D1 programs were all "D1 scouted", and I would say they did have "offers" albeit by NAIA and D2 schools.

I hate to say it, but if you want a d1 scholarship, the place to play is OH, CA, FL or TX. Its not enough to perform well at camp. If you don't have a rep before hand, you can perform well and never be noticed.
