Who the heck are they going to surprise if they aren't surprising people in the top 10? What is this thread about? Are they going to surprise people by jumping out from behind the concession stand?

 

A surprise to me is exceeding expectations. Which is what I believe they'll do.

Don't know yet.......we'll have a good idea by mid-October....I still have a lot of questions in my mind, about the staff.

Well, I realize T lost a lot to graduation, and it sounds like X will have a whale of a team this year, but I don't know how anyone can bet against T winning state this year, especially with X having a new head coach.

I think a lot of focus is still on the players that T lost, and not enough credit is being given to the players that they have. I truly believe that Bonnafon and Brooks are going to have people wondering where T has been hiding them for the past two years.

I'm hoping for improvement from Boone Co this year. Their new head coach was BGHS's superb defensive coordinator for the last several years, Jeff "Big Griff" Griffith. Because of that move, the Purples lose a starter at OLB this year, Owen "Little Griff" Griffith. He was second on a great Purple defense in sacks last year and has outstanding quickness.

 

Little Griff may be finishing his hs career with the Rebels, but he will always be one of my boys! And I will miss swapping skin with both before games. But I hope that they will lead the Rebels back to respectability quickly. I'd put Boone Co just short of the top ten at this point, say 11-12.:thumb:

 

St Xavier v BGHS at Brother Thomas More Stadium on 6 September...a possible matchup of future 6A and 5A champs for 2013!!:eek:Sir Charles will give us fits running the ball like last year at The Big El!! He was very impressive indeed. The Tigers have my vote to reach the mountain top in 6A this year.:thumb:

Since Travis Eliot went down with injury, Ryle's winning percentage is less than 30%. . Owen Hauck offense is not effective without a d1 caliber back. Hiring an internal candidate for OC does not help the situation IMO. I predict that if Boone starts lighting up the scoreboard with their new offense, discontent in Union will ferment to open rebellion.

After Trinity has won the last 3 State Championships in 6A, how can anyone other than the Rocks be favorite for this year??? Come on folks, you can only cry wolf so many times... Trinity is the defending State Champ and will be till somebody knocks them out of the PLAYOFFS..... NOBODY HAS BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT the last three years!!!! Having said that, St. X is supposed to be loaded and very talanted. I believe this!!! However, the Tigers have to get the job done come November/December. Plus with the new coaching staff, just a lot of unknown variables. This could be a very welcomed blessing.... or it could be growing pains.... I'm taking the optimistic approach and feel that the Tigers will give the Rocks everything they want and then some.... But Trinity is the clear cut favorite this year no question.

This about sums it up. Solid.

T is #1 until someone can knock them off followed by X at #2. I think Male will be better, but I believe they will be very young so they maybe a year or two away from being actual contenders.

Best frosh talent & team in L'ville (& I'd expand to 'state') last year--I believe went undefeated. This talent will be young, but having a secondary of Sophs running a 4.5 is as fast as a secondary of Sr's running a 4.5. The difference is they'll make more mistakes EARLY ON but improve a LOT as the year goes on (we experienced this w/ a young-but-talented team 2 yrs ago--started out a BAD team, but gave state runner-up Scott Co a very tough game in playoffs).

 

We'd theorized too they may not be as good up front, BUT we saw several of their big guys perform at Camps/Combines where our guys were this spring/Summer & let's just say they seemed like a MORE than solid 6A line group. Big & moved very well in drills.

 

And they'll be well-coached.

 

My guess is, they'll get over their youth-mistakes right about the time we play them Week 5.

I have been told by a Male staffer that this year's freshmen group will not come close to last year's squad. The rules for staying at Male are somewhat tougher than other JCPS members, and this has hurt them in the past.

 

I still feel Manual has a ton of talent. Their QB is the real deal. The kids have to buy in to the program. I am hoping the Bruins rattle some cages early this season.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you on this. I hate to say it, but beechwoods frosh team was pretty darn good. Was as good a freshman team I've ever seen. Most those kids were 2 year starters on the frosh team and some were 3 year starters. Hard to compete with that. Not to mention, the stringer kid is a stud. I'm sure that's gonna upset some SK fans, sorry......

Ancient History. There is a kid named Dylan Powell at SK who will grab bigger headlines, gain more yards and score more TD's. With a huge, mobile OL a senior QB and talented receivers Powell will be running in secondaries full of blocked cornerbacks. He will never have run against a defense with 8 or 9 defenders in the box. Oh, and he has been clocked in the 40 at camp at 4.38.
