June 24, 201313 yr AT&T. Don't quote me 100% on this but with AT&T if you have an iPhone I THINK you should be able to keep it, even if you upgrade it. I'm not positive but I believe that is the perk for having an iPhone on AT&T.

June 24, 201313 yr Author It's depending upon the carrier. Namely At&T and Verizon switched their plans to no longer offer unlimited data. I know they switched, but I've had the unlimited data plan since 2009. I upgraded last year and kept it, and I plan on doing the same whenever I upgrade to the next Iphone.

I was in line to do this, and came to the realization, when you upgrade your phone, you sign a NEW contract. if, like me, you are hanging on to your unlimited data, upgrading causes you to lose your unlimited data. and that my friends, is bad news for me. looks like i'll be a generation behind until they pry my unlimited data from my cold dead fingers! haha.Thanks for the warning! I have the old unlimited data/unlimited text plan too. A guy at the Verizon store told me to hold onto that like it was gold, because nobody offers it anymore. Although, I have upgraded my phone since that time and did not lose my plan.

June 25, 201313 yr I have upgraded and been able to keep unlimited data. They told me I can keep it as long as there isn't a break in coverage or unless I choose to change plans. This was through Verizon.
