June 14, 201313 yr I agree with Guru. I lean toward traitor because at the end of the day, he broke "chain of command" and decided he knew better than his superiors. For better or worse, you cannot run a defense organization/military if people break ranks when they feel something is wrong. It is a new world and to properly defend our nation we may need to sacrifice some privacy. As long as that is not being abused, I am ok with it.

June 14, 201313 yr I'm not sure how I come down on what he did, but I have a real problem with labeling him a traitor; the reason is simple: treason is Constitutionally defined. Article III, Section 3: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." We can't say that he's "levying war" against the United States, so that leaves us with one of the last two and if he's giving "aid and comfort" to the enemy, then we're dangerously close to labeling the American people as our government's "enemy" on this matter.

He tells them anything at all about classified U.S. government info then let's throw him in Leavenworth for the rest of his days but I don't know anything about that to this point. It's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard if he's so concerned about how the U.S government is treating its citizens and so would go to China...

June 14, 201313 yr I'd been out of the Edward Snowden loop for a couple days. I didn't know he'd skeedaddled to Hong Kong because of it's record of free speech and civil liberties. Hold on for a second, I have to do something after that one... That's better. Hong Kong may once have had that reputation but it's now under under Chinese rule and so could prove to be very dangerous. I'm a big believer in civil disobedience. I can respect a person who defies a law he believes to be wrong. I respect that person because he has the courage to stand up for what he believes in despite the consequences. Snowden cut and ran from the consequences of his actions. It's one thing to leak information about a program you believe affects the freedoms and rights of the American people. It's QUITE another to reveal state secrets to a foreign government, especially one like China, a country at whom much of our intelligence activity is directed.

June 14, 201313 yr I lean more toward Patriot... Our enemies already knew we had ways of keeping tabs on them since the Trade Center bombings.. Snowden has revealed the fact that this has been extended to ordinary citizens.. Anything the government says to build their case against him like people are going to die because of this is bogus...

June 14, 201313 yr If he was as concerned as he says he was then he should have gone through proper channels to tell his story and then suffer the consequences of doing it. I don't know that I'm willing to label him a traitor but I would label him a cowardly attention prostitute.
