Greatest Single Play in NBA History

Featured Replies

I think of the 91 Finals when MJ rose up like he was going to dunk it super hard with his right hand and then he brought it down, switched hands and layed it up with his left hand.

A SPECTACULAR move by Michael Jordan!

Jordan over Ehlo.

Jordan over Byron Russell.

Dr. J rock the cradle.

Bird's steal

Magic playing center and shooting the half hook.

I think of the 91 Finals when MJ rose up like he was going to dunk it super hard with his right hand and then he brought it down, switched hands and layed it up with his left hand. I'll never forget my father and I looking at each other in stunned amazement and then laughing. MJ was just showing off then.

When I think of one play I think of that play.

When I think of greatest performance ever I think of Kobe's 81 point game.

You know a shot is iconic when you can remember where you were when it happened. I remember watching that play while attending a graduation party on Manor Lake Drive in Independence.

Maybe not a single play, but my first thought is Reggie Miller's 8 points in 9 seconds vs. the Knicks.

I thought it was the LeBron dunk of Tiago Splitter?

Not sure. All the nominees that come to mind are in this thread, but trying to narrow it down to 1 is difficult.

It may have something to do with age. I always think about the Jordan layup, but my dad talks about Havlicek's steal and Dr. J's dunks.

That crazy reverse layup by Dr. J.

That's the very first thing that comes to my mind when I think about this so I'm also going with that.

It's the play that was the reason for my question.

That crazy reverse layup by Dr. J.

I understand why people point to this but for me personally if I didn't watch it happen live then it doesn't count and I didn't get to see that layup live so it's just another highlight to me. Watching Bird steal that pass and watching Magic's baby hook for the win register more to me than that layup.

A SPECTACULAR move by Michael Jordan!

The wildest thing about that play is he didn't even have to switch hands! I get his reasoning as I've heard him explain it before like he explains in the video (just goes to show MJ was always thinking a step ahead of everyone else), but since no one jumped to contest he could have just dunked it or laid it in with his right hand. Didn't even have to switch hands! I'm glad he did though or we wouldn't have this memorable play.

This is one of the first ones I thought of, but more because of the call than anything else. "Theres a steal by Bird!"

Wasn't just one play so it doesn't count, but have to think about Reggies outburst in the Garden. 8 points in 9 seconds!!!!! I guess if you had to turn that into a single play you could use the stolen inbounds pass, to step back three pointer. Very memorable moment in basketball.
