June 11, 201313 yr Anyone else have their bank notify them of new fees? US Bank told us today that if we don't have a loan or maintain over $25,000 in our account, we will be subject to a $12 per month fee for banking with them.
June 11, 201313 yr 5/3 just hit me with some kind of fee for an account I've had for like 15 years. I don't use it anymore so I will just close it but it's a pain in the butt getting to a branch during business hours. Huntington is my main bank and has plenty of deals to avoid paying fees.

It's not like banks aren't making any money now.
June 11, 201313 yr Author I have US Bank and have never had any fees. This is to begin in August. Your main banking branch is suppose to contact you about it, but when stopping by a local branch today for a notary, we were informed of this new policy. I have a car loan, which keeps me exempt from this policy for now. No way do I keep over $25k in my savings and checking account where it earns nothing.
June 11, 201313 yr 5/3rd hit me like that. I'm being charged 7 or 8 bucks I think. Something like that. I hate that if I use a non 5/3rd ATM that I get charged 3 bucks by the ATM and then another 2 bucks by 5/3rd for using a non 5/3rd ATM. It cost me a total of 10 bucks to get my own money in cash last week on vacation. Dumbest. Thing. Ever. I have to pay to get my own money?

You might what to look into seeing what type account you have. I know some banks offer this "Advantage" relationship but if you don't have a mortgage or a higher balance like you said you'll be hit with a monthly maintinence fee. Ive seen several people have the same account for years, never receive a fee but than refinance and than it'll hit without them even knowing it.
June 11, 201313 yr I use US Bank. So since I don't have any loan through them and don't have anywhere near $25,000 in my accounts, I will get charged $12 per month? Sounds like a sure fire way to lose a college aged customer for the rest of their life.

Was just in there this past weekend setting up a new account. They told me about the new fees and about easy ways they can get me around them. I'd suggest you ask them about that. I'll add that I'd be absolutely shocked if the amount is $25,000 like you say. You realize how many customers they'd be losing doing that? It'd be one of the most moronic business decisions ever implemented.
June 11, 201313 yr And I was right....This is what I was told this past weekend, and this article seems to clear up an issues. Sounds like you were misinformed. US Bank Changing Fees

US Bank told us today that if we don't have a loan or maintain over $25,000 in our account, we will be subject to a $12 per month fee for banking with them. Bank of Kentucky, Whitaker Bank, BB&T all have changed to this policy in the last few months.
June 12, 201313 yr Author I got some documentation on the matter today. The teller yesterday had everything mixed up. It's actually not that bad, and I meet multiple exemptions, so not sure why she made such a big deal about it.
