As LRCW already mentioned....Pitching Simon for .2, Parra for .1, LeCure and Hoover each for just 1, is where he did an atrocious job. You can't waste your entire bullpen like that.

 

You guys would've absolutely hammered him for leaving Simon, Parra or Hoover in long enough to blow it. That's a fact. He handled it with confidence that his offense could get it done by 10 or 11 innings and they failed. They didn't and he had to scramble.

I agree with Crash that the offense sucking for 8 innings against the Cubs pen was the reason for the loss.

 

Having said that here is what I have a hard time understanding. It's a close game late. Dusty knows he's down a guy in the pen. He's not going to use Chapman unless he has a lead going into the Cubs last AB. Why in the world do you use Simon for just 2/3 of an inning, Parra for 1/3, Hoover for 1 and LeCure for just one inning? You have to do a better job of managing the pen than that knowing the game could go several extra innings. You would have thought he learned that several years ago in San Diego.

 

The only one I have a problem with is using Hoover one inning. When it went to extra innings, he should have pitched Hoover at least one more inning, if not two more, knowing he was almost out of pitchers.

 

On using Chapman with the game tied, if I use him this is how I do it. Bring Chapman in and hope the Reds score in their next at bat. If the Reds don't score, I pull Chapman and go with Choo or whoever it would have been. No use putting Chapman out there for a second inning in a tie game knowing he will not pitch a third inning. You are going to have to use Choo/whoever to win it anyway so go ahead and hope for the best.

Nope. I like Simon. Hoover did fine in the 9th. No reason to not allow him to start the 10th.

Dusty went through the first 9 innings like every other time he has been in that situation. He made changes based on match ups. The same in-game decisions you guys said he sucks at. You even admitted that those changes worked because Hoover and Simon threw fine. How was he supposed to know LeCure, who for all but one week this season has been lights out, was going to implode? The same guy everyone on here, including me, has raved about the last two months. At that point, he burned two relievers and had to go with Hoover then got 4 innings of Partch dealing. It, literally, was no different than if they had a 2 run lead but LeCure got hit and the offense went to sleep.

 

The only question mark is, what's the deal with Broxton? He either was sore or wasn't.

 

I seriously don't understand how you guys can go through a baseball season and blame every loss on the manager and give the players credit for a win, but in spite of their manager. He has won 1,621 more MLB games than anyone on this site, but we have a handful of posters that question every single call. It was worn out long ago.

I wonder if Broxton has an ugly girlfriend? Ugly girlfriend = no confidence. Someone may want to check that out.

 

Seriously though, I think Broxton ever since the first Pitt series has lost his mojo. He needs to get it back before its too late.

I'm sure it was already mentioned in here somewhere, but this goes down as another no decision for Latos. Crazy how many he's had, at least this time he didn't pitch a gem and get one.
