That'd be the 16th inning at that point, I'm fine with using Choo, Bruce, Izturis, or whoever it takes to finish the game (W or L). A guy said his arm is sore (broad term) and you have $7 million invested in him, in my mind you don't use him. Anyone but him.

When the game gets to the 14th inning and the only other options are a position player or a guy who said he's got a sore arm? I'm guessing every one. Well, all but one.

I agree with Crash that the offense sucking for 8 innings against the Cubs pen was the reason for the loss.

 

Having said that here is what I have a hard time understanding. It's a close game late. Dusty knows he's down a guy in the pen. He's not going to use Chapman unless he has a lead going into the Cubs last AB. Why in the world do you use Simon for just 2/3 of an inning, Parra for 1/3, Hoover for 1 and LeCure for just one inning? You have to do a better job of managing the pen than that knowing the game could go several extra innings. You would have thought he learned that several years ago in San Diego.

For me it all depends on the truth about Broxton. I don't think any of us know the answer to the risk involved. Were they being over cautious in trying to not use him? I think we will find out the answer today or tomorrow. If Broxton misses the series this weekend, then it was a bad move bringing him in.

Right. The greatest doesn't get to be the greatest without doing great things. He has proven that he can also throw more often and longer than other closers. Which, again, is why he's the GOAT!

Doesn't mean Dusty didn't do an atrocious job with the bullpen yesterday. I'd rather not pitch a pitcher that has been sidelined the past handful of days with a sore arm.

As LRCW already mentioned....Pitching Simon for .2, Parra for .1, LeCure and Hoover each for just 1, is where he did an atrocious job. You can't waste your entire bullpen like that.
