Pleasure Ridge Park 3 Mercer County 2 (8 innings) (State Championship)

Thanks for posting that ASB.

Anyone know how PRP scored the winning run?

Squeeze bunt/fielder's choice I believe. PRP got a triple and then bunted him home. I can't recall who did it though.

Great great game. I listened to it on my way home from Myrtle Beach. Heartbreak in Mercer County tonight. I was hoping to go celebrate at the high school. Tons of tears and heartbreak.

Congrats to PRP and their head coach who is now 1011-264 lifetime and picked up his 5th state title I believe. Congratulations.

Joseph Hatcher had a bunt single that went back to the pitcher which allowed Blake Stewart to score the go ahead run in the top of the 8th....The pitcher came home to try and get the runner out at home but he was safe, Hatcher was thrown out at second..

Mercer had first and second with only one out in the bottom of the 8th, but grounded sharply to third which started a 5-4-3 double play. Seemed like a pretty well played game by both teams.

A couple things I thought about tonight:

-The win for PRP has to erase the heartache of giving up 4 in the 7th and losing to Mercer in 2011. Included in that was a dropped fly ball in right that scored the winning run for Mercer.

-The hurt for Mercer has to be much tougher tonight than in 2011. Two years ago they were absolutely crushed by Central Hardin, 21-2. They'll relieve all the what-ifs of tonight's game for some time.

With all that said, however, what a terrific job Jeremy Shope has done at Mercer County. He has taken them from an also-ran to one of the premier programs in the state of Kentucky. Hopefully they'll be able to get over the championship hump soon.

That is a fielder's choice, not a bunt single if the pitcher threw to home to try and get the runner.

Congratulations to PRP.

Dixie played PRP earlier in the year. While they didn't (that game) wow you with their pitching (even though Dixie was shut-out, lack of timely hits) or offense, they were one of the most solid defensive teams I have ever seen.

Congrats!

Just going by the live update on KHSAA and that's what they gave

Tough loss for Mercer County who is now officially a baseball school. Expect to see Mercer back in the state tournament soon. They return a good core of their talent and have some good young talent expected to make an impact immediately. The future looks bright and Coach Shope has proven to be the right man to lead the Titans.

Congrats on another tremendous season. Keep your heads up, boys. You have made us all proud.:thumb:
