If CovCath has to count on a Frosh (not sayin he isnt capable) to play Varsity LBer then my guess is the Blueboys are not quite ready to be claiming State Championships just yet. Still a whole bunch of work to be done in Park Hills imo.

 

FWIW, I do see CovCath making huge strides from where they were just 3 short yrs ago and provided the PHM can stay quiet then I can see them getting better and better each yr. :thumb:

 

 

Woah woah woah, hold up. I do not think In ail lion years that a cch Frosh will be playing varsity this year. Yeah some will dress but they won't be in at crunch time. I just stated that a freshman might play because you never know what could happen, injuries, blowouts, etc.

From what I have heard on BGP so far is that the entire CocCath freshman could start Varsity this year. And win!

 

No one said anything about the entire Frosh team playing up. They have some great athletes. Some will dress and won't see the field until blowouts or injuries.

Highlands incoming Frosh lack size but have a few nice athletes.

 

Really, now I heard somewhat the opposite. They will have good size on the line and capable skill players, but that there is no standout.

All this talk of how good the freshman are is laughable. It happens every year. For the love of God, let the boys play it out on the field without all this useless banter from someone who is obviously trying to pump up one kid as though he's the second coming of Ray Lewis.

 

I agree that people have a tendancy to over hype the Freshman teams. However, I don't recall this many talking about the previous 6 or 7 freshman classes at CovCath. This group from all that I have heard is the best since the state Championship team. Their incomiing QB, is absolutely a stud. In addition they have at least 5 or 6 other skill position players that can be considered in the very good to great category as well.

The last time CovCath beat HHS was in 2006 (twice) in that same year CovCath last won the State Championship but then again no where near what the Colonels baseball team has done over the many years to the Bluebirds from HHS.

All indications are that he is. He's been working out in between AAU ball.

He is playing. I believe I saw him walk out of a workout the other night. I sure all the boys talked to him and got him to play. I am not sure if this is Coles Last

year or not. He is a stud and can play both sports. He should!! Can't wait to watch him and Shelton connect for long td's.

To elaborate on TOG's baseball response above since Coach Mueller started coaching Highlands in 1994, Highlands is 24-6 against CCH. CCH won twice his first season (1994), twice in 2006, a playoff game in 2001 and the mudbowl in 1997. In this series Highlands is 9-0 over the last 6 seasons, 14-2 over the last 11 seasons, 20-3 over the last 15 seasons and 24-4 over the last 18 seasons. Highlands has beaten CCH in their regular season games 17 of the last 18 seasons (every year except 2006 when a TD pass on the last play of the game interrupted the streak) and it appears that Highlands has won 9 straight (all of the) regular season games that have been played at CCH (where they play this coming season) during that time. However, to put a positive spin on it for CCH, during that 19 year time period the only other team with more than two wins against Highlands is Cincinnati Elder, so CCH has beaten HHS 3 times more than any other team during that era (albeit in many more attempts than any other team during that time period).

Ahhhh, the smell of football is in the air so it's only fitting that this rivalry starts to heat up on BGP already! Praying for an injury-free season for both teams and good luck this year! Go Birds!

Having a good or great freshman team is nice. But when Towles and gang were freshmen, they were manhandled by both Dixie and Beechwood. Having said that, Towles did not start as a quarterback his freshman year. Then Highlands manhandled Beechwood and Dixie when these players became varsity players. This is an example of why great freshman play does not always mean great varsity play, and vice versa. You just need to get 10 or 12 good freshman players each year.

Is this a baseball thread or a football thread. You want to talk baseball then do it there please. OB is exactly right in his observation. Football not going well the last 20 years or so and we will roll out the baseball talk. Honestly CovCath should dominate every sport considering they have the entire Northern Kentucky area to choose from.
