Southeast Christian Church Cuts Ties with Boy Scouts

Was he talking about military troops or Boy Scout troops.

Boy Scout troops..

Very few church sponsors offer much, if any financial support. Mostly it's use of facilities for meetings.

Boy Scout troops..

My apologies as I had Military troops on the mind.

Our church has hosted the Boy Scouts but never had them in our church budget. They are an independent organization in my mind and not connected with our church except we support them as a community place to meet.

It's a shame that some churches are cutting ties with the scouts as it's been my experience that it is a good relationship for both. The churches provide facilities and usually a nice donor base while the scouts provide service to the church and a community presence that represents the church very nicely.

As I recall there was a sermon a few years ago that inspired some anti-Catholic vandalism.

To which Catholic Churches? The last anti-Catholic vandalism in Louisville I know of happened to my church (St. Martin of Tours),,,,,,,,in 1856 by the Know Nothing Party :).

It wasn't churches. If I remember correctly, some teenage members of Southeast and an employee were linked to the destruction of a couple Marian statutes on someone's property.

How Chistian like! lol

The fact that teenagers were involved is one thing but an employee??? I hope he/she was fired.

I don't remember. I do recall thinking the whole thing was really strange. Didn't think anyone had gone around smashing statues of Mary since Henry the Eighth.

Personally I don't like it, but they can support and not support who they wish. Nobody makes anyone join that or any other church. All privately funded, their choice.

I'm not trying to disparage Southeast but I'm not a big fan. That said they 100% have the right to do this and in their normal and totally grandiose style I fully expect them to start their own boys and girls groups similar in nature to the scouts but with their own rules for membership.

I expect we will see new youth groups springing up, similar to the American Heritage Girls in the 1990's.
