When was the last time you served at Mass?

Featured Replies

This question is for all the BGP catholics out there. This evening at 5:30 mass at Divine Mercy in Bellevue, as I entered church Fr. Prasad asked me if my daughters were with me, since all three of my girls regularly serve at 5:30 mass. I responded "no, they were going in the morning with my wife". He comes back saying that the servers scheduled were "no shows" and as I looked around the church I noticed that there were no children in attendence. I said, "no problem I can handle it. I promptly went back and "donned" the sacred gear and preformed like a champ. :ylsuper:

This was the 1st time I had served in 10 years, as I served the final mass ever at St. Anthony's Church in Bellevue back in July of 2003. Before that I served all through high school.

So to all my good catholic BGP'ers....When was the last time you served at Mass?

When I was growing up, girls weren't allowed to serve. So...never.

Funny that you said that rockmom as when my Daughter started serving she asked me if I had served and I showed her some of my medals that I received for serving Mass. She then asked her Mom and my wife told her that girls weren't allowed to serve and I can still remember the look of disbelief on her face.

Most young girls today, just don't quite understand what girls of my wife and my generation started at and where they are today. A lot of young girls women owe you and my wife a lot more than they they receive for what they have made available to the young women of today compared to the long ago days!

Rock Star! Nice.

Just today I was talking about a guy who is about 70 that will step in if there is a no-show.

Recently I thought about becoming an ordained minister, one for this reason. If I remember tomorrow ill have to ask how.

8th grade for father Krebs. Loved the money for doing weddings and funerals.

I also read about half of the children's masses from 6th-8th grade. I missed a lot of my first period class!

I assume you're Catholic. If so, do you mean an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion or a lector? You can be commissioned by the Bishop for either ministry by getting permission of your priest and going to a diocesan sponsored class.

'88, I used to love ringin the bells.

Lets see I guess when my daughter last served about 16 years ago ( she will be 30 this year ) I sometime served Mass with her ( Parent -Child ) as is a custom at St Therese in Southgate . I still am a lector and EMHC there and I am on a team that helps count the Sunday collection . I served mass at Sacred Heart in Bellevue from 3rd grade until I was 19 .

I will go unto the Alter of God The God who gave ( Gives ?) joy to my youth
