I was 5'8" tall 170 ish at 11 years old so he could be a big boy, idk him to confirm.

Is not a big boy at all...smaller than average if anything.

I will assume that responsible parents keep any and all guns locked up and away from their children.

I'm saying guns should not be left around where kids can get to them without adult supervision. Careless and it could POTENTIALLY lead to injury/death.

I actually feel bad for the kid because he trusted in his teacher because he made a mistake that really probably isn't on him, and he's thrown in jail for it? Mentally that is gonna affect that kid I would think.

My understanding is that most school districts have a policy of weapons brought to school is an automatic expulsion.

Even if I had my moms .380 in my pocket, it would weigh down my pants to where I would notice it. This seems odd to me.

I had a loaded weapon in my pants everyday I went to school. Still carry one, it just doesn't fire as often as it once did.

Problems I have with this scenario:

 

Parental: how do you not teach your child proper gun safety and storage? You follow up EVERY time your kids have been handling a gun. An 11 year old isn't responsible enough to be trusted. Hell, you can't trust them to brush their teeth without your oversight! And what parent let's an 11 year old put a loaded gun in his pants pocket?

 

Kid: I don't buy that he didn't realize it. It would have bumped his leg in cargo pants. But, I don't think he bears the most responsibility in this situation. And I applaud him for his honesty.

 

LE: the parents need to be charged with criminal neglect for failing to ensure the safety of their son and others.

I agree that he did the right thing and that should be taken into account. I can see a suspension but not expulsion from school.

 

There are several private schools and an Independent City School system he can attend.

I have a hard time buying that he didn't know he had a gun in his pocket. I'm guessing he took the gun to school, got nervous and decided to tell on himself before being caught. Bringing a gun to school deserves expulsion IMO accidental or not.
