April 20, 201313 yr The one thing I don't understand is this, it would of been even easier for the Ravens to change the time of their game. Why would Rex think it's Baseball's responsibility to change their schedule, they have nothing to do with the NFL...all the ravens had to do was change the time of their game, they could of even moved it to Sunday Night Football. Seems to me the NFL is the one that screwed this one up. Bingo Hellbird! But the NFL thinks they are the be all, end all. They are not.
April 20, 201313 yr So History and Hellbird, does the fact that baseball has 81 home games vs. 8 for football mean anything?
April 20, 201313 yr So History and Hellbird, does the fact that baseball has 81 home games vs. 8 for football mean anything? Sure they have 10 times more games, and the schedules are out there already, work around it. Happens with every other sporting event. No need for a football exception. I love football too, but the NFL really have developed an elitist mentality. They play once a week. Be flexible. There never will be a sport as traditional as baseball, and football is jealous of that. Stats mean something in baseball. In football-whoop-ti-doo.

Seems to me the NFL is the one that screwed this one up. Bingo Hellbird! But the NFL thinks they are the be all, end all. They are not.Actually, the NFL is too popular for its own good in this case. Their kickoff times are dictated by the networks where in baseball they probably have more flexibility since there are so few national games broadcast relative to the amount of games played. They could have accomodated if they wanted to but I would not have budged. I have no idea when season tickets for baseball are distributed or the start times of the games are set. Presumably before the start of February? So if the NFL was serious about it, they could have spoken to the Orioles at that time. And maybe they did but it was thwarted at that time. I do not see the NFL or Baltimore crying, just Rex. Why are they asking him anyways?

Just thinking that the Orioles could have really come out smelling like a rose in this.
April 20, 201313 yr Not arguing that either. I think most people do recognize that this is the NFL/Ravens problem. Just thinking that the Orioles could have really come out smelling like a rose in this. And again, I'm not sure how much of a problem the NFL/Ravens have with it all, if any. They may have just looked at the Orioles schedule and said, "hey, we have to be on the road Week 1." This is Rex just being a blowhard.
April 20, 201313 yr For me this is Mind over Matter...I really don't Mind because the Ravens and Orioles don't Matter.
April 20, 201313 yr The Orioles have no reason to change their schedule. Plus we have already started the season and the Ravens knew the conflict so try should work around it. It's not the Orioles fault at all and they should not feel pressured to give the Ravens or the NFL what they want. I'm glad the Orioles said no.
April 21, 201313 yr The MLB schedule was in place long before the 2013 Super Bowl was played. The venues in which these game are played, or in this case the shared parking lot in which fans patrons for events at these venues utilize, are scheduled around other things besides sports. Completely changing schedules can be a logistical challenge at the very least. However, it seems to me, if there was a rainout on Thursday, the Orioles would have no problem playing a double header the next day or Saturday. I find it kind of funny that they couldn't have done the same for that particular Thursday night game, playing a double header on Saturday, or a twilight double header on Friday, to accommodate the Ravens. Making the fans choose between the two, may not be the best thing for attendance at the baseball game that Thursday night. What will be funny, is if the Thursday night game IS rained out.
