I dead man's switch I believe is a bomb detonator that when you pull the trigger, you arm the bomb, when you release the trigger, the bomb explodes. The are used in the hope police will not shoot the guy with it because police know if shot, he will release the trigger and everyone around the bomber dies.

A dead man's switch is essentially a trigger that is pressed and when released it will detonate the bomb. So if you shoot the suspect it would cause them to release the trigger and blow up.

Exactly I'm less concerned with info than other people's safety. The FBI is great as piecing things together once they know where and whom to look at, dead or alive. Sure alive helps but then your assuming they'll give up anything. If they're extremists, then I'd say we are better off that they're dead.

 

If these guys have help, obtaining info from the suspect could be just as crucial to safety, if not more crucial than actually killing him...

Sure but if it comes down to him dead or more lives lost trying to apprehend him like it did earlier this morning/last night then I'm good with the guys dead and the FBI left with trying to piece it together in the following weeks. Yes alive is great, but stopped is the most important thing in my mind at this point. I'm sure they're trying to take him alive if possible though for the reasons you've mentioned.
