Not taking away from Neeley or Congelton they both play as hard and seem to love the game as much or more than anyone they've played or play with but Smith has led them to the Semi's of Regional All A and already won 3 times more games. Neeley is no doubt a top all around pg/2guard in the region and Congelton dont get the respect or ink he has earned all season. But without Smith playing teamball, the way he has recently been , Owsley wouldnt have beaten June B. or have the potential to upset someone come distric time. Smith isnt a negative to Neeley or Congelton but he is positive to the entire team.

Agreed. People can say what they want to about Robert Smith, but he has totally turned his game around. Neeley, Smith, and Congelton are the nucleus of this young Owsley team, they play together, and even more so since Smith was added to them. Without him they are a doormat with 2 offensive weapons, with him they become dangerous. Enough said.

Mains and Belcher from PC get props here.

You just wait Ronnie Estill Co. will get some attention. They are new to the 14th. Wait till they get them a big rivalry in the 14th!!!:D

Estill County already has a built-in rivalry with Powell County:

The schools are 20 minutes apart, have very similar enrollments, and are in the same district...one that seeds its games. Those two have been going at it for years in basketball and baseball, even while in different regions

I think Dan Penick of Ludlow has been saving his best for last. Last night against Beechwood the Tigers had as many as 3 people trying to stop him without any luck. He dominated both ends of the floor and in the past month has elevated his game.

Say what you will critics but he's 6'9" and around 245 lbs. Prefers to play facing the basket (why, because he can) but as we have seen a great deal more of recently he can also post up and take the ball to the hole with authority. Good ball handling skills and an improving outside shot and sees the floor as well as anyone playing this year. Unbelievable passer and very unselfish or his points per game average would be much higher. Mid-level Div. 1 schools are drooling over him. Of all the players playing in the 9th region this year Dan has the most potential and upside and will sign at a higher level then any other 9th region senior. He has matured a great deal and his leadership has helped the Panthers to begin to get their year back on the right track at hopefully the right time of the year.

BigZig, even you would have to admit though that Penick doesn't get the most attention in the region. Right?

I tell you who gets NO ATTENTION!!!! ESTILL COUNTY!! SHOW US SOME LOVE 14th FANS! :D

I've tried Ronnie, but I just can't hate Dixon and Co. like I thought I could. Like Tyson Gross at Owsley last year, they just don't irritate the fans.

Dixon is one of the best in the 14th, and yes I would much rather have on my team than Smith of Owsley. Controversey follows that kid around for some reason.

no question about it. Only a Junior, avg 21 pg 10.6 rbs against a very, very tough schedule. Definitely a front runner for Mr. Basketball next year.

How does the Smith kid irritate the fans? This is the problem about you guys; there are always two or three bashing this kid. I love watching this kid play; he plays he's rump off everynight trying to develop these young kids. I havent seen him running his mouth, talking trash to other teams, like you all said he would do when he returned. It looks to me he is far from a headcase. Good Luck Owsley.

What is it about this kid (Smith) that you all hate so much? Is it because he is usually the best player on the floor?

Yea, Smith is no doubt one of the top three players in the region.

I'll go with Owsley. Smith is too good! Fetters can't hold his own with him. Who can handle Neeley? This is a different team. I will have to go with the Owls.

Great game, great atmosphere. Smith is the deciding factor!

Owls win, they have got the momentum on their side, and Lee Co can't stop Robert Smith.

Smith is a confident player, but you have be confident to be goood. And if you didn't see it last night in the 3rd after Rich had dominated for most of the game with Reed, Wilson, & Riley on him. Smith stepped up to help the team and went to battle with Rich in the post defending him pretty well.

It's not the kid, its' statements like the above that draw the fire. Substitute any name. :flame:

People always wanted to talk about Smith because of his attitude in his early career, before he transfered then was transformed. People like to talk about him because they know he has potential to do great things and he could help any team greatly in this region the way he has been playing. I dont know about wanting Smith on my team more than Dixon except for that reason but Dixon is one of the most solid players in this region. Both play hard and proven to be true athletes. But wanting one more than the other would have to depend on which position i would need to fill on my team. For Guard position I would take Robert easy. For Foward pos. I would take Dixon even easier. (Bringing Tyson Gross back would be my preference)

Wouldnt it be great to have both and see just who could stop that team.

Just imagine if Smith wouldnt had got ruled ineligible when he wanted to come back last year. Him and gross would had been tough to compete against. Well... i guess will never get to see that. I want to wish Dixon, Smith, Gilbert and all the other players out there the best of luck, and i hope they dont let these small statements get into their game. I guess most of these people are just adults battling it out to make a name for their home team they use to play for and love so much.

is this Smith kid the one that came to Clay CO? I remember that kid now...not many clay co fans liked him that much...and I did hear he had a horrilble ego problem...I hope he has changed that....when I watched him play he wasnt the player you all are describing...he must have improved....but best wishes to the kid...

I agree that Smith gets tons of attention in the 14th and I would have to say his running mate would be Gilbert. These are two players that people either love or hate and most of them seem too hate. But it is ok I hope neither one of them listen to it to much. They are both to good to worry about it.

It's a shame that people love to hate good players. Both Smith and Gilbert are tremendous players, but people do love to talk about them.

Watch it....lol....hmmmmmm...pattern here?
